You don't have to go to the Sierras to enjoy the mountains of N. Nevada. There are dozens of ranges with peaks over 10,000 feet and plenty with trout streams even close to roads that never need to be planted because they are already full of trout. Ranges like the Santa Rosas, Jarbidge, Trout Creeks, Toiyabes, Monitors, all have streams full of trout wild as the desert wind. Even a "half-cripple" like me can get to the fine fishing. The trick is that the streams are often not obvious because the mountains look barren (trees never got to some like the Toiyabees since the last ice age). There is a website run by the BLM and the Univ. of Nevada that has webcams on top of a dozen mountains (some almost 11,000 feet) that are a wildfire warning system that lets you look at the mountain ranges. I believe the website is called Alert Wildfire.com but you can get to it by searching Cave Mountain, Jacks Peak, Fairview Peak, etc. Solitude is the name for what you will find. When you make it, consider going to the Nevada Cast Boolit Shoot in early June. NCBS is more fun than you should be allowed to have which is why I travel the 700 miles to get there then visit the mountains for a few days. To Love Life - maybe next June.

We are heading out in the morning. We aren't taking a trailer as we managed to get everything packed in the Jeep and a cargo bag on top.
I think we are going to stop at a car wash before we get out of Illinois to wash the dirt from our car and shake off our shoes.
