Don't bet on it... Moisture comes and goes at it's own discretion.....

If it's been drying for 13 years I think you're good to go.

I see a tinsel fairy visiting you at some point. Lead can explode just from having humidity on your ladle or spoon and dipping it in. Never assume something is ever dry.

Been there....wish I hadn't done that.

So that's what happened when I put my ladle into the pot too fast.

Well I finally got it done. 200 pounds of boolits melted in two batches. It went very well. I covered the pot and left a small crack for any pressure to vent. As the boolits started to melt, the smoke started. After a few minutes the smoke lit and the gook that came to the top starting burning off into some crusty looking stuff. I stirred and skimmed until the pot was full of beautiful shinny molten lead. The lead ingots came out great. Just wanted to let everyone know how much I appreciate all the feedback.

Glad it worked out well for you. I've remelted lubed bullets before and expected for it to be uneventful for you.

Now I have to go through a 5 gallon bucket of COWW that a purchased a while back from a local repair and tire shop. Years ago when I brought WWs home I didn't have to worry about sorting them. They were all lead. I stopped buying them a couple of years ago when I realized I was getting only about 50-60% lead. Well, with the 200 pounds of the old boolits I melted and the WWs I have to go through, I think I'll have enough lead to cast for awhile.
