RCBS 505 scale

I get the parts from RCBS to fix my scale.
The plastic leveling foot, Hanger and pan.
The pan is the newer style, but it fit the hanger so it should work.
I put it together, and it won't "O"
I adjusted the leveling foot, but hanger was to light.
I added some weight to the pan to get it to "O".
Question is.... What is the initial setting for the leveling foot????
I set it at the half way point.

Unscrew the holding (silver) and you will see there is a cup that you can add shot to weight down the pan and give yourself some lee-way on the leveling foot. Half way is fine. I thought it was strange to put shot in at first too, but it works.

That's what i had to do. Put a couple of extra shots in the holder.
I noticed that if I the leg is screwed in to much to "O", the beam would stop short.
I think the magnets dampening maybe holding it back.
What I did was adjust the leg to get the beam to move freely.
Also, to get the body as level as possible on a flat surface.
Put all the shots, from the holder, into the pan.
Then I added, or subtracted, shot until it "O".
Found that if the pointer side is to high, or low, it has an affect on the sensitivity.
The copper plate needs to be centered with the magnet to work at it's best.
It's easier to do that describe.

Sometimes the beam wants to "stick" or "hang up" , lightly touch the beam with your finger to get it free swinging again and make sure it's centered on the bearings , not too far left or right .

Check the Agate bearings (no cuts dings or wear ) They should move freely up and down (just a tad) in there holders. Also check the knife edges on the beam, should be sharp and smooth, the angle on them should be even on both sides V

Leval the scale body, THEN, the beam should be straight across the top level with the bench top. This is the time to play with the shot in the in the hanger.

Simply put, the scale body should be level left to right and back to front. use the shot to get the pointer to 0
while keeping the beam straight across the top. If it become difficult to do notice the copper piece at the end of the beam, it sits between the two uprights of the scale body.
It's delicate so be careful here apply a small amount of pressure left or right to the copper piece and you will see a shift in how the pointer sits in relation to 0. When I say a little pressure to the copper piece I MEAN a little as in almost none.

You want the scale level--the beam level and the pointer on zero, fine tune with the leveling foot on the scale.
