    Help, messed up my mold.

So I had been very happy with my lee 230 grain 309 mold. After a few uses I decided to give it a quick scrub with a toothbrush. Well I dont know what I was thinking, the mold was still way too hot and the bristles melted all over the mold, I cant get the gunk off, any ideas or is the mold shot?

    Thanks
    Tony

Get it reeeeal hot and use a brass brush on it....gently.

You can also try soaking it in acetone...but no promises with this method.

I did the same thing once. Well, I got it out by soaking it in hoppes a few days, and taking a wooden scraper and picking at it. I also used a bronze brush gently, in a side to side motion in the cavity. It worked. Lacquer thinner did nothing, as it will not melt the plastic that the bristles are made out of.

Acetone should dissolve the plastic. Using a popsicle stick and torch sounds good.

Yep, blowtorch & burn it out. I'd even try "casting" it out first. Personally, I wouldn't scrape on it.

Thanks for the help everyone. A brass brush is already working... slowly. I am going to soak it in solvent again tonight and keep working at it until its clean.

I did something similar once... I read somewhere that wax was a good mold lube for the spure plate pivot and lock points so while it was hot I touched a piece of crayon to those areas and immediately regretted it the wax ran into the mold cavities and was a mess think I ended up just casting a bunch until it finally melted/ came out of the cavities. Never again!
