Thought about it myself, only went as far pcing a few just to measure. Did a bore fit, took a hammer down the whole barrel of a old knight inline (.503 bore). The conical easily loads in the same gun.
With out firing I can say not worth it.
Stick with lubes and sabots. Leave pc for smokeless
I'd be hesitant to try it.
Spent my fair share of time getting burnt plastic shotgun wad goo out of BP shotguns once upon a time.
If you really want to try because you need to bring up the diameter of some bullets or something my suggestion would be to lube well with a BP lube. This will help keep the fouling soft and keep it from building up or maybe stripping the PC off. No first hand experience to back this up though.
I was just wondering. I powder coat my .45-70 smokeless. I’m now getting ready to load black powder and as I said, I was just wondering.
Powder coating is some pretty tough stuff though. Nothing like a plastic shotgun shell. I’ve heard people say they throw recycled boolits into the pot and the lead melts out and the plastic floats on top not melted.
Don't see why it wouldn't work. As you say, PC is tough stuff and I doubt it's going to melt or burn off with BP since it doesn't with smokeless. BUT (don't you love that word) - - BUT, one purpose of a lube with BP is to keep the fouling soft. Since PC won't do that you're still going to need a lube.
It works in conjunction with good BP lube, not without. PC bullets in sabots work well and the PC seems to aid in the release from the sabot.
