    Nick,

Measuring the throat diameter is easy. The easiest way to measure a .303 or Krag chamber is to take a factory .38 Special soft-swaged lead, round-nosed bullet, drop it into the chamber, and then use a section of squared off, chamfered and polished 3/8" brass or aluminum rod to pound it into the chamber neck until the drive rod comes to a stop against the shoulder of the chamber. Then just tap the slug back out from the muzzle and measure it with a micrometer. This lets you capture the chamber neck diameter, case mouth transition, and throat diameter, which are all you need to know to order your mold from Accurate or NOE.

That is a much less messy way of getting a chamber throat measurement,
All this time I have been slopping Cerrosafe (spelling?.. ) all over the darn place.
Going to try that ,, thanks.
Keep breathing , it's good for ya...

First try with a recently purchased Krag was with a 200 grain cast bullet from a Saeco 301 mold sized .309”.
    Traditional alox/beeswax homemade lube.
Too high on 100 yd target but right on using bottom aperture of ladder at 200 yd plates!
    Lucky!
I used Hornady cases and filled each with 19.4 grains of R7, a 200 grain cast bullet, and A CCI primer.
Average velocity for five shoots was 1496 ft/sec!

I have used these in a 30-40 handi rifle. 200 grain, lubed sized to .311 and gas checked. Use with 2400 load data from Lyman 49.

Careful about trying to run this above 2000 fps. I get pressure signs and poor accuracy above 1800 fps.

Today I managed to make a few hits on my 240 yard plates using
200 grain cast bullets at a muzzle velocity of 1496ft/sec.

Very nice! Thanks for sharing those pics!
    Underneath our starry, starry flag,
We civilized 'em with a Krag.

314299 sized at .312 rings the 200 yard gong all day long.

    Good advice there.

If you have a tighter throat try the 311291 as a plinker.

Have read that the Lyman 311284 was designed for the 30-40. Have one that is sized .311 shoots great in my Krag. Oversize molds are available, NOE is one source.
