H&G 68 in a CZ 97 Sport with Green Dot?

Hey guys,
because of a failed powder experiment I´m having some Green Dot left.
And because it has such huge flakes which don´t drop consistantly in small cases, I thought I load it up in my .45 ACP.

Here are my datas, except the powder charge:

Boolit: 200gr. SWC H&G 68
C.O.L.: 1.26"
Crimp: light tapper
Primer: Magtech

What do you think, will Green Dot work in this caliber?

And if so, how many powder should I use for a pet load (disc-friendly)?

Alliant lists one load for Green Dot in the 45 ACP cartridge.

Green Dot has been around a long time and there is a lot of data for .45 ACP with the H&G 68 bullet. I load the H&G 68 bullet to 1.255" COL and don't have any problems dropping Green Dot with my Dillon 550, I don't know what (disc-friendly) means.

with disc-friendly I´ve meant that it doesn´t hit to hard on the paper, a target or pet load like you might say.

Would you tell me how big your charge for the H&G 68 is?

I have shot a fair amount of Green Dot under cast 200 swc, H&G 68 style. My load came from some old load manuals so you will have to decide how to proceed. The best accuracy came in at 4.5 grains with my alloy around 14 brinell. I used Lee scoops and measured every load. Shot in a 1911. Recoil is about the same as Bullseye at 4.2/4.3. I think the accuracy is better with Green Dot, just a pain to scoop and weigh every charge. Please verify this info in a printed manual you trust.

I have an Alliant manual from 2001 which suggests 4.3 grains of green dot with a 200 grain cast boolit as a target load.
Pressures are very light, listed as 9.9Kpsi.
Velocity listed as 806 fps.

This shows a starting load Green Dot for a 200 gr swc. Lyman loading manuals are the best for cast bullets and Green Dot.

Well yes, the powder is a bit finicky in terms of consistant drops, right?
I´ve tried it some years ago in .40 S&W, but the charges were all over the place in my Dillon 650.
But the hole in the 45 powder funnel is wider, so I hope it´ll work better.

QL says everything is comfy with your loads, too.

100% burnt powder, and so burning finish in the barrel, starts at 5.2grs what is more than I´ve expected.
But with 5.2gr. the "yellow" pressure zone in QL begins too.

So that will be my max. load, but I will start somewhat lower, with 4.4gr. I guess and look what happens.

I've never used Green Dot, but I would assume the Alliant load is a max load. It sounds like 4.3 to 4.5 is a common charge. Keep in mind the 230 RN bullet has practically the same amount of bullet in the case as the 200 grain H&G 68 so the pressures and load data will be very similar.

4.8 grains under an MP clone of the H&G 68 worked pretty well in my Sig P 220.

Ran 27,000+ through my 1911 loaded with Green Dot. It meters well for me once I learned to put a baffle in my powder drops.
