There are modified bolt sleeves and kits to modify the sleeve around too. Brownells sold safety levers for scoped mausers.

I put a Timney "Buehler style" on a Turk 38 that had a lot of problems, so it got sportered. Good safety.

They are out there, but some a bit questionable. I bought one of the Bueller style for a 95 model, not really much holding it in, stays in on safe, but falls out on fire. Is going to vary widely by the rifle. My m48 I bought a timney trigger w a safety, just leave the one on the bolt alone. My 95, I cut the tab about half way, still use the safety but clear a scope.

Now the one that came on my 1891 argentine, aftermarket Bueller style is a work of art, doubt they are made anymore.

This is a Dayton Traister MkII for 93/95 Mauser. The bolt shroud must be slotted for retention of the flag when on fire. It also has a little vinyl piece on the shaft to smooth things out. It works great on this 1916 Spanish.

My favorite after market affordable Mauser safety is the two position side swing safety. There are a couple on the market.

I've tried pretty much all of them over the years. The only one I found absolutely dependable and easy to manipulate is the Winchester style three position safety. They used to be made by Gentry, no idea if they are still available. I think there are one or two others on the market now. Expect to pay around $180 or so for one. I consider them worth the money, and I am cheap. Check Brownells.
I personally found the Dayton Traister to be undependable, and likely to get shifted to fire position in field conditions.

I heartily agree. Gentry's safety is the only one I will use on those rifles. He does still make them, you can get them direct from him.
