🍚 Keeping dampness from PC powder??

Just thinking aloud:

since folks put uncooked rice in salt shakers to keep the salt dry could you do the same thing (add rice to your PC container) to keep the powder dry??

I would fall through along with the ASBBs so it's not like it would get cooked into (onto) the bullets

You could sift the rice out with a Mesh Stainless Steel Strainer

You could also put the rice in little cheesecloth baggies like they do at weddings to keep it separate.

I got a pack of these from Amazon to keep in my powder jars. They're rechargable in the toaster oven so they should last a while

Would the swirling and shaking grind the rice like grinding bp with round balls cause contamination in the pc and problems with adhesion?

I keep my bulk powder in an ammo can with a dessicant canister.

My individual shaking containers are airtight with an o-ring seal. Rubbermaid Easy Find Lids Tabs Food Storage Container. I PC'd some bullets yesterday with Smoke's powder that had been in the Rubbermaid container with the BBs since February or March. It coated just like it was new/fresh powder. I don't have to worry about accumulation of moisture in the powder. My building is an insulated shed without climate control.

The Rubbermaid containers aren't exactly cheap, but very heavy duty plastic that should last a long time. The smaller, thinner zip Loc containers are brittle. I busted a couple of them after just a few coatings.

I keep my bulk powder in glass canning jars (pint to half gallon). I pull a vacuum on the jar when I am finished taking out the powder I will need. Moisture will not go through glass or steel. It will go through zip lock bags and some other plastics (however very slow )
My year old powders still work fine down here in the swamp.

I store my powder in sealed glass jars in the freezer of my garage frig. I am still using some powder purchased in 2012. I take a jar out and let it come to room temp before opening afterwards it goes back in the freezer. The powder flows like new and coats like new.
I personally wouldn't put anything in my powder that could contaminate the coating.

I bought a bunch of silica gel packets from China on eBay. Hardly cost anything, but had to wait a month for them.

I put a couple in with the powder in a plastic bag with all the air pushed out. Then that in another plastic bag with more silica packets. Finally in a cheap Tupperware knock off. I don’t think it seals very well, but keeps things better organized.

I’ve been using this powder (three different colors) for over a year now with no problems.

+1.... Keep mine in the garage fridge in a mayo jar inside a freezer bag. My observation: it doesn't matter if it comes to room temp to work perfectly.

Are you speaking to smokeless/ black powder or to powder coat powder?

I keep my pc in a file cabinet in plastic zip bags in the shop with one of those moisture traps you can buy at the dollar store and haven’t had any issues.

Well let's hope it doesn't blow, although a powder coated frig would be a real conversation piece, but I would hate to lose the beer.
