    WTS Pewter ingots and Monotype letters

    1. Pewter ingots that run approx. 4 ingots to the pound. 1 box 6 pounds for $54 to your door SPF to JonP
    2. Monotype letters mostly the small type which packs better. 1 box 45 lbs. for $90 + $10 for shipping. Shipped & Recd. by SCTPCOACH

    The pewter ingots are marked with a P from the mold. Ingots sourced from stamped pewter items

    Monotype letters have more tin and antimony than linotype. Little goes a long way to sweeten WW's, Range Scrap, or plain lead.
    shims and linotype spacers removed so mostly letters with a few monotype notched and block spacers only.

    I accept USPS money orders and Paypal. Checks only if you don't mind me depositing and waiting a few days for it to clear.
    I want it posted here and send a PM to confirm. Shipping is USPS Flat Rate and I'll send a tracking number when it goes out.

    Rotometals lists Foundry Type at $5.6 a pound and Linotype at $4 a pound, Monotype alloy is between those two in Sn & Sb content at approx. 10/16 vs Mono 18/28 and 4/12 for lino.

    Scrap.... because all the really pithy and emphatic four letter words were taken and we had to describe this source of casting material somehow so we added an "S" to what non casters and wives call what we collect.

    I don't need any at this time BUT, an XRF analysis would be very handy for the mono. It would be nice to know what percentage of copper is in there (if any) Lot's of people going out of their way to try and get copper into their harder boolits because it keeps them from being brittle.

    Never bothered to test anything but the print spacers because monotype is a somewhat known and reasonably consistent alloy, lists lead/tin/antimony in the literature but don't recall seeing copper listed. None of the few hundred pounds of print spacers that I have had XRF tested have a copper content. Lot of antimony and tin, no copper.

    Copper is more common in pewter from what I have found from XRF testing and in listings of pewter alloy composition. Copper alloys with tin as I recall and pewter is mostly tin but even pewter from the foundry is < 1% copper however there is a sticky on getting copper into tin to add to a melt in the Lead forum.

    PS generally monotype alone would cast harder than you would generally want with a published BHN of 27. Added to lead it allows one to improve a basic alloy into a better casting alloy. Sort of like the sugar in the flour makes a cake better. All sugar yeech. Some sugar yummy.

    Bump for the pewter ingots you know you want to follow you home!

    Had tested results were:
    Pb = 7.8%
    Sb = 5.7%
    Sn = 85.2%
    Cu = 1.3%

    Which is pretty good. Has 85% tin and enough Sb that adding these ingots for tin won't reduce Sb in the melt. Touch of copper. Little lead probably from an older pewter item from back when lead was "ok" and WW's were free range.

    Price drop on pewter. 6 pounds for $54 to your door. Nice ingots, good tested alloy, good price, extra pound to maximize value of shipping costs.
