Oven problem

I'm having a problem with my oven.
With all the smart people here, I thought I would ask before replacing it.

It's old. Over 15 years. Electric floor model.
Maytag mod-CRE655. Ser-127021FB

Been working fine until this past weekend.
It will not get hot unless I turn it up to 450'.
It turns on and off when the temp reaches 450'.
Below that seems like it's only warm.
Indicator light comes on at 450'. Nothing below that.
The burners work fine.

Sounds like the thermostat. The electric ranges are easy to work on. If the burner, heating element in the oven is coming on at all the burner is good. I would check online amazon or other places for a stat. Most appliances places for parts are very expensive. Also most appliances parts fit a lot of different brands same part. Just look you will find a parts supplier that won’t rob you. I recently had drier problems. One company wanted over 200 for the moter. I found 2 company’s that had the same part for 59$ and 65$. If it’s a glass top stove they have a computer that controls heat. They are expensive and usally I just trash the stove. Repair clinic is a good site because they have trouble shooting guides and tell you how to test the parts. There a little higher on price than some parts places but there site makes up for it to help you find the problem

Two online parts stores say the thermostat is a Whirlpool W10125457 which goes for $35 used on ebay $107-$133 new. Double check the numbers with the vendor before you order.

The thin copper wire on the thermostat going to the fatter bulb that goes into the oven is actually a small tube that caries pressure back to the switch part. Do Not Kink The Tube.

i was thinking it had something to do with the thermostat.
Being so old, might not be worth fixing.
Part is over $100
New range is $400.

That’s 1/4 the price of the new one, 15 years its time for new. If you go to all that trouble to fix and it doesn’t, that’s money you won’t get back. Put that $100 with 3 more ,get a new oven and a warranty.

My sons oven had the same type of issues, replacing the sensor did the trick, but his was only $12. For the price of yours it may be time to just replace the whole oven. Unless you have an appliance repair shop. He may have a used one cheap to get you by for a year or two.

My GE is now over 25 years old. The only thing i ever had to replace was the lower heating element. (died 1 week before Thanksgiving a few years back)...I had the part in 3 days and replaced before the family rush arrived.

Personally....I'd fix it. a saving of $300 is still $300 in your pocket....and if the oven doesn't die in the next 4 years...then the repair has paid for itself. But the next time it breaks down...its time for a new one.

Fix it. We still use my Mom's old double oven Hotpoint that she bought used. It probably dates to the 50's . Love the small oven on top instead of a useless microwave ! NO ELECTRONICS .
