I use tapered pins held in a .30 cal collet to expand case necks to allow the cast boolits to be seated. I use 5/16 “ bolts and turn them in a drill motor with a flat file. .30 cal, 7 mm, .22 cal and turned a 3/8 “ bolt down to fit the .30 collet for a .375 expander. My question regards the neck tension obtained by using a tapered pin rather than a straight pin type expander such as a Lyman M die. I’m expanding the case mouth to the point of barely allowing the gas check to enter the neck. Does this allow enough neck tension for good ignition of the powder charge?
