Thread: .45 Colt with a .45-70 rim

    .45 Colt with a .45-70 rim

I have a antique carbine with a camber that measure out to be about a 45 colt. To extract the rim needs to be about a .45-70. barrel slugs out to .465/.463.

Cut down .45-70 does not fit. To large at the base

    Thoughts and ideas

    Thanks in advance

It’s gonna be some awfully thin brass if the chamber is .480 and the barrel is .465. Have you cast the chamber?

Could it be for that .45COLT ammo that was loaded for the COLT 1909. I seem to remember reading something about the rims being made wider because the standard cartridge rims would slip off the extractor, jamming up the revolver.
Happiness is a Warm GUN & more ammo to shoot in it.

Its actually a Sharps and Hankins. The .45 fits nicely. The rim is big enough to head space correctly. But not extract.

I have tried and fail to cast the chamber. It wont release. So I have gently heated the barrel and poured out the camber casting metal. I need to attempt again and just cast the chamber (no lead or rifling)

If I cant get a soft lead bullet to bump up when shot, I thought I would have to go to a heeled bullet
