    Ideal MR die # 126

The references I have show die #126 as "9 MM rifle", anyone have any idea what cartridge it may be referring?
The die is 1.82 overall length and my imprecise measuring to the beginning of the neck shows about 1.01. The neck sizing area mikes 0.371.

Another oddity is a seating die # 116 which should be 7 mm Mauser but it is stamped also with 6.5 mm and appears to be typical Ideal stampings. The seating stem is #438 which would be correct for several .225 boolits but the stems get changed around so much that is meaningless.

There is a 9mm rifle cartridge similar to 35 Whelen or 30-06.

Those are both for the respective 57mm cartridges. The 9x57 was, here, once rather popular. I stumbled on a # 10 set for the 9mm and was very tempted to buy it to open to 9.3mm; but couldn't let myself molest such a bit of history.

I forgot about the 9x57, was thinking about the 9.3 but I think that is 9.3x62 and thought that would be too long. Bet it is 9x57!

Likely a 9X57 Mauser Lyman 310 neck sizing die. Any 38 Special/357 Mag expander can be use. It is a very good round, with thump about like the 358 Win. A great deer and elk round.

I also have one of the Lyman Shell Resizer FL die in this caliber. I just have not run accoss a rifle yet.

I've also heard of people taking a relatively common M-98 Mauser with a shot-out 8x57 mm barrel and just having it rebored to 9mm. Supposedly it makes a great round for moose, elk, bear, etc. No personal experience, but it sounds like a pretty good idea, and 9mm/357 bullets in good heavy weights are pretty easy to find.
