Actually being caught having real sperm whale oil is no Illegal from what Ive heard. A lot substitute the "steam oils" like canola for it. I suspect JoJoba would work well in ts place also.

I was offered some porpoise oil for free one time. I took a picture, but didn't accept it. I wish I would have taken it home.

Fat Man ... This recipe is Harry Pope's, vintage 1890's to early 2000's:
Mutton Tallow 6 oz (Chop, warm and strain through a tea strainer)
    Bee's Wax 2 oz
    Bay (Berry) Wax 4 oz
    Steam Cylinder Oil 2 oz
Acheson Electric Graphite #2301, 2 heaping tablespoons full (about 170 grains)
    Regards
    John

I buy this regular for wiping the bores of my Shiloh's and other B/P guns, local gun store has it on the shelf.

Also Bear oil cannot be legally purchased, you must harvest yourself or be gifted some.

It is blended with beeswax and some other 'natural ingredients' I have thought of adding some to my B/P lube and seeing if there's any attributes as a lube on a greaser bullet. I use it mainly after the bore is clean and never a speck of rust.
