    40 s&w ar 15 ??

OK I am selling off a number of rifles and handguns
As I have decided that Safe Queens that never get shot .....well I figure sell some of them and buy something I will shoot

    I have been thinking , I shoot both my Sig 229 and Glock 22 a fair amount ( Both in 40 S&W )
So I am thinking of getting a AR 15 upper and the other parts needed to use the Glock 22 mags in the AR 15

I figure I can just find a load the rifle likes and load a bunch on the Dillon press

But I don't know who makes a decent upper ... or a barrel & parts

So I figured I could just ask
As I need to figure out what to expect to pay , then figure out what to sell to pay for the parts

    Thanks
    John

Being glock mags wont be the issue. But not seen where 40 cal bolts are that easy to get or a barrel. Way easier solution is to buy a Mechtech upper, uses your glock frame and mags.

Here are a couple of sites to peruse:
Frontier Armory, KAK, Rainier Arms etc. I think there are more if you google 40 S&W AR. The Glock 9mm lower will work with the .40 S&W mags, you just need the barrel, bolt carrier group (blowback) and proper buffer. Any upper receiver will work but a smooth side is more aesthetic.

I recently purchased a 45 cal 80% lower and 10mm 8" upper from New Frontier Armory in Las Vegas, for a AR pistol build. I haven't assembled it yet, but the quality looks really good. They offer a complete 40 S&W upper (including bolt) as well as component parts.

I have been running two of these in 9 mm (one rifle, one pistol length) and they work well. I am going to convert the rifle to a 40 S&W config. JSE also has components as do others on the web. The Glock lowers I have will take G19, G17 and Glock stick (30+) mags with no issues. I like the LRBO (last round bolt open) feature on my builds. Also check with Hawktec in Boise for a glock compatable lower.

They’re not cheap but I recommend Stern Defense. You don’t need a dedicated lower and it works w/ almost all off the shelf parts. I say almost any because they don’t work w/ the JP silent capture buffers. I believe there are some triggers that they don’t work w/ as well. But it’s a very small list of items that don’t work w/ it.

I have one in 9mm and it’s been dead nuts reliable. Some people complain about the mag release location, it’s on the magwell adapter. But this is a nonissue for me. Every gun has different ergonomics so this is no different.

Here are the conversion kits for 40, you can buy individual components if you want.

I own one of the Just Right Carbines in 40 S&W that takes Glock mags. They are AR-like, but not completely an AR. Takedown/disassembly is different. But it's a pretty good shooter. I also have the barrel and conversion parts to make it 9MM.

they list them on there web site but haven't had them in stock for the last 3 years. Same with the 45acp uppers they list. I would have to guess they were troublesome and just quit making them.

There is a wildcat 10mm ARMAG coming down the line. Right now the designer is waiting on the reamer. It looks to use 6.8 basic brass trimmed to around 1.6 with existing 6.8 bolt and mags. IT could be interesting.

    I built a 9mm carbine using parts from JoeBob's,

    https://www.joeboboutfitters.com/Pis...s-s/156429.htm

I think their branded upper/lower is made by Frontier Armory
their list of pistol caliber parts is a lot longer than when I did my build.

I also build a 45acp using this site:

I was JUST thinking over and over about a 40 caliber AR with a long straight walled case using the standard 5.56 bolt.

I like the idea of using 1.71" brass made from basic brass not 6.8 brass, looks like Starline will keep this basic brass as a stock item and if it stays available, the 10mm ARMAG might gain a foothold. It's too bad it doesn't use a standard 5.56 bolt, that would greatly promote the acceptance of a new cartridge in the AR market.

Got a .22 .30 .32 .357 .38 .40 .41 .44 .45 .480 or .500 S&W cylinder that needs throats honed? 9mm, 10mm/40S&W, 45 ACP pistol barrel that won't "plunk" your handloads? 480 Ruger or 475 Linebaugh cylinder that needs the "step" reamed to 6° 30min chamfer? I like the looks of it as well, there is not many 40 cal AR rifles out there. I think it shows a lot of promise.

Never liked the rebated rims so doing this on the 6.8 basic brass just works well. The developer won't release drawings and I am concerned about a dimension or two but well see how it works out.
