When a 240gr Boolit Mold AIN'T a 240gr Mold

l had a really weird thing happen to me... Bought a SAECO 44 cal mold off Flebay recently.

Seller said boolit mold was a SAECO #29441--4 cavity 44cal 240gr SWC--.430'' dia..

Factory box was marked as 29441/240gr/.430'' .. mold also marked 29441

SAECO mold chart says 441 is a 240gr KT SWC...

Just one problem in all this. Mold isn't making 240gr boolits. They're 270 gr boolits.

Simply beautiful boolits... Weights vary only a couple grains per boolit..

Anyone ever had this problem before??

I have a .357 150gr Lyman that drops 170gr after having the gas check ring removed, perhaps this is why. Regards Stephen

lt seems Steven Cohen and Grmps are BOTH correct.. lt is definitely mislabeled and the gas ring has been

removed or never was there... The boolit shank or base below the grease groove is extremely wide...

Question remains, Who cut the removed the gas ring and why did they number it 441 instead of 439?

439 is the gas check mold#. 441 is the plain base mold#. This is neither!

l have seen other molds w/gas ring removed.. There always seem to be telltale machine marks of the

gas ring removal... There are none on this mold... Another oddity of ths mold is the

name ''MOORE'' on the bottom of the mold..

I don't have any answers for the OP, But I had owned a 4 cav Saeco 441, I bought it from the original owner, who bought it new in the 1980s, it was never modifed. It dropped uniform boolits with COWW that measured .4325 and weighted 250gr.

If I were to guess what the OP's mold is? I'd say that Saeco made a custom (Heavy) 441 for a person named Moore.

Full number on box/mold is '29441'.... l believe the ''29'' stands for .429''.. Checking the boolits cast w mike and calipers they are reading .4285-.429''

Jon B nailed it in post number 5. I have the Saeco 441 in 4C and mine casts at .431 and boolits weigh 250g plus or minus depending on alloy.

l shot some 270s using 2400 at an IHMSA FIELD PISTOL match in Gainesville on Sat.

Those little critters got thumped pretty HARD. The SAECO 441/270gr had a similar

trajectory like my 250gr H&G#503 KEITH. They just seemed to hit HARDER!!

MY old 70's vintage Saeco 441 also cast bullets weighing over 240 with any alloy used from WW to linotype ! IF the bullet shoots don't worry about bullet weight as long as they are all + or - 2 grains of each other.

Most bullet moulds are spected with magnum bullet alloy and others mostly rifle with linotype

I have an old Lyman 9mm 4 cav it casts a 136 grain bullet.

Same pot the 2 cavity same # cast it at the advertised 122 grains. Both were the same diameter.

I gave the 2 cavity to my friend he loved it. I like the heavier boolit myself.

My Saeco mold has no markings. Bought new long time before Reddinng got involved.

Box is marked 294441 . Bullets drop from the 4 cavity mold at .4345" to .435" diameter. Weight is 252 to 255 grs.

Still have the factory paper work thats in the box. Came complete with handles, list price was $60.

The older molds I have all drop heavier than they say. The biggest difference is an NEI "SSK" style 44 caliber, marked 310 grains. It drops almost 335 grains with wheel weights.
