While I'm saddened that SW lost his dog to cancer, I must say that I'm relieved that it wasn't him (as I feared when I saw the title) who had an even more unfortunate event in his life

Usually, when I'm at a loss for words, it is to comfort someone else who has lost a loved one. Now, it is for all you loving and caring friends who are offering prayer and words of comfort for me and my family.
Truly, words alone cannot thank all of you enough for your support. Now you've got me dripping on the keyboard again...
Lloyd and I have been PMing and he has been particularly supportive. He and I may see history from opposite sides of the Mason-Dixon Line, but as far as our feelings and relationship with our pets, we virtually see things through each other's eyes.
I will practice what I preach and remind myself that time will make this pain and empty spot in my heart more bearable.
Thank you again to all of the very caring and supportive folks on this forum.

Some of us truly think or Dogs are family and to be truthful id rather die myself the watch my son die. I haven't watched my children die. Havent even yet lost a parent but some of the most painful days of my life were the days following loosing a good dog. If they don't go to heaven I don't want to go there either.
Sorry for your loss.

Wow! These are really tough losses for us older types. I think God gave man dogs so we could see what agape love really looks like - unconditional commitment. Be at peace, Smokey. He will live on within you forever.
