    need pid wiring advice for a magnitic stirring hot plate

    had buyer remorse for not buying a pid controlled hot plate. looked around and found extra pid parts. my problem is how to wire the darn thing. if I do it like I do for my lead pots, it would not be helpful for stirring

    the guts well what little there is. there is room in the case for a pid. just where to wire. see a transformer and small control board, so a little ac to dc conversion, I know for the motor.

    main switch to hot plate switch and transformer

    hotplate switch to hotplate

    hotplate to transformer

    I know the positive between the main switch and hotplate.

    where the other wire go. between the hotplate and transformer?

    Your PID needs to go between the switch for the heating element and the hot plate at 120VAC. Leave all of the stirring circuit alone.
    Depending on your choice of PID it will Likely require a 120V hot and neutral plus a hot jumper for the control circuit and an output from the control circuit.
    You will also need some type of thermal connection for the PID coming out of the box or going directly to the plate. Thermocouples are most common, RTDs not so much for the higher heats we use .
    I get my PIDs from Auber instruments (online) IIRC.

    think if I would use enclosed ready to go pid, I was gong to use for an electric kiln but changed my mind (electrical in my shop would not be able to handle it). so it has wires running out. maybe I can run another set of wires from the switch to the pid . looks like the hotplate is direct ac. the small control circuit, just an ac/dc convertor, is for the dc motor

    pid to the output of the hotplate switch.
    natural to the out of the hotplate that runs to the transformer.

    could just run a couple of wires and jumper off the 120v for the whole unit. maybe?

    the pid I have built, I just changed out the thermocouple. the one that was on it can handle 2k+ degrees a little over kill for these project. also have a couple year old berme and enclosed one is an mypid.
