WTS or Trade, ITHACA model 37, 12 ga barrel

I have a Ithaca model 37, 12 ga barrel for sale. This came off a 1946 model
and has a 2 3/4 chamber and has a poly choke installed. Barrel is in nice
shape, but does have bluing wear from use, Bore is clean with no pitting.
$100.00 shipped. Or would trade for a 12 ga barrel for a H&R model 158
singleshot. Payment by USPS money order. If interested post and send PM.
    Thanks for looking.

Do you know what serial number the gun it came off was? Below 855,000?

I looked the serial number up. It's 92695 so it dates to 1946, not 1948. Edited post
    to correct date of manufacture.

The reason is that prior to 855K, the barrels aren't interchangeable and not sure how difficult it is to fit one to a different gun. Maybe someone here knows.

Evidently the threads on the earlier barrels, lower than 855,00, have a thread diameter and/or pitch different than later production and are not suited for use on later receivers.

    From the Ithace site:
If your M37 was made before the 855,000 mark (which occurred in 1963), we will be able to furnish you with a replacement barrel for it, but you must send your gun to us for the barrel to be fitted. The process includes machine removal of existing threads, insertion of adapter and re-threading of receiver and re-bluing. Please note that once this is completed you will not be able to reuse your old barrel. Cost for this process is $180.00 for the adapter, plus cost of barrel. Includes re-bluing at no charge.

Hi richhodg66, You were right this barrel is for the older 37 and would need to be fitted to
an older action. I guess it goes into the scrap barrel. Just my luck.

You might try to sell it to someone who can use a barrel for an old receiver, just have to make sure they understand it is for pre-1963 (S/N 855000) receivers. The polychoke might actually be a selling point, the only other option for multi-chokes is have a pre-63 barrel bored and threaded for choke tubes.

I'll leave it here for a few more days, Maybe someone might be interested in it.
I still need a 12 ga barrel for my H&R model 158. If anyone is interested in the
37 barrel, make me an offer. Better then scraping it.

I'm no expert, I've heard some say a decent gunsmith can fit an old one to a different gun without much trouble and then I've heard guys say it's nearly impossible, I just don't know. But please don't scrap it.
