    PC'd Gould HP in .45-70?

I'm planning on sticking my toe in the PC pool and am wondering if it is reasonable to PC the Gould 330 grain HP .45-70 boolit and push it to the 1,600 fps range with the coating intact? I plan to use Larry Gibson's recipe of 5# WW/5# pure lead and 2% tin from 50/50 solder. The rifle is a new Marlin guide gun stainless big lever with a pristine Ballard rifling bore and it likes tumble lubed .460 boolits. If that velocity is not realistic, what is? Any experience or comments will be appreciated. GF

I've driven that bullet out of a 1895CB cast of 20/1, lubed with 50/50-beeswax/bear fat over what is now a over maximum charge of IMR3031.
For LOG-CUTTING Side Matches in COWBOY ACTION SHOOTING. 3 shots blew a 6" x 6" pine upright in half at 50yrds. No one was more shocked than me. No leading, sized .459, it was an OLD small block mold.
Wish I still had some bear fat. Sadly I'll never get a chance to try it on Bear or Boar.

Found one bullet during testing, expanded to 65 caliber.
Didn't have access to a chony. But by LYMAN Book #48, I figure, velocity was 1800fps plus.

I'm still trying to find a SalvationArmy/Goodwill toaster oven. May just have to break down and buy a new one.
Already have two colours/brands of PC.
    I HATE auto-correct

Happiness is a Warm GUN & more ammo to shoot in it.

My Experience and My Opinion, are just that, Mine.

Been coating and shooting the 330 gould boolit at 1700 fps with no issues in a new 1885 win.
This has been the most accurate load in this rifle
Shot straight ww and 50/50 and both shoot fine
Using aa5744 and imr 3031 and dacron filler.
Going to try some 50/50 water quenched in the next few days and see how that works
