    Ness Safety Bullet (H&G#38)

There was a copy of the Ness Safety Bullet run several years ago by Mihec as shown here:

    http://castboolits.gunloads.com/show...-Safety-Bullet

Any interest in a re-run? If the manufacturer were amenable, this mold could be very flexible if an extra set of pins were included that made either a round nose or truncated cone in addition to the huge HP (read: interest more buyers). Thoughts?

I will run this one. Give me a day or two. Solid only will run at 10. HP will run at 25 molds.

Had this interesting mould from Miha, very specialized because of veeeery deep HP. Fragments as hell-and that’s its purpose. Haven’t played much with boolets but my first ever group at 50m was very nice. See photo

    Wow that’s something else.
    Is that in 300 blackout?

Gamsek is gifted with photography skills to match his casting portfolio

Anybody that has one of these care to measure the boolit OAL? It would be real interesting if it could fit in a 327 Federal using 32 S&W Long brass or the like. The extra diameter needed for a .32 might need to be made up for with powder coating. Or you could have a really long-skirted hollow base wadcutter

I would be interested in a 2 cavity brass mold.

WOW!! This is definitely cool!! I can only think of about a million uses for this...

I'm in for a 2-cavity mould with HP and solid pins, please!

    Thanks,

My ness bullets from the Mihec mold measure .890" with the gc on.

I've been using the ness bullet in a 308w, easy enough to find several loads that would do 1 1/2" 10-shot groups @ 100yds. Powders like unique & 2400 get in the 1800fps to 2000fps range.

    1800+fps loads shot into wetpack @ 75yds.
    [IMG][/IMG]

Wetpack ='s newspaper taped together into 12" bundles then set in a cooler and the cooler is filled with water and left to sit over night. THe cooler is taken to the range, a bundle of wetpack is pulled out and set at the desired yardage & a target is put on the wetpack.

Those ness bullets cast from range scrap and water dropped and loaded to 1800fps left 1/2 dollar sized permanent holes in the wetpack that were 5" long. I water drop them because those long hp's deform rather easy when they are dropped from the mold.

I've shot several different sized animals with these bullets from 50yds away to 125yds. All's I can say is WOW!!!

I'm sure this bullet is capable of doing better than 1 1/2" groups @ 100yds. I've just never taken the time to find out. 13.5gr of unique in a 308w was 1 of the 1st powders/loads I tested and it was good enough for what I was going.

^^This is the first thing I had in mind for this bullet. I'm now completely sold on it.

One of the things that I've done with mine is half fill the cavity with grease, then swage it into a pointed bullet. The grease keeps the cavity open inside the bullet, the swaging seals it in, and when it hits anything, the trapped grease makes them explode the same as an unmodified version does when hitting a jug of water. It's very satisfying to watch.

I got the idea from the anecdotal references to the old timers doing this (or something similar) with these bullets. I tried swaging without the grease, but it seemed like the cavity was collapsing more than I thought it should.

Great idea. Do you have any pictures of recovered bullets?

Sadly I never took photos of the fragments. I'll try to get some in the near future though, I'm revisiting this in the next month or so, and hoping to get more solid data.
