What is bore diameter of your krag and what bullet are you using?
They all vary.
I've owned three over the years, one was .3085, and one was .3135
one I bought and sold long ago, before I was a caster, and never slugged it.

Krag groove diameter varies from .3125 to .308 with most falling into .3095 range. Regardless of groove diameter they all have the same long and large throat. A .312 - .313 cast bullet will be accurate in 99% of the Krag rifles and carbines.

I don't know, but.....
Grooves are pitted, lands are mostly OK, muzzle is cleaning rod worn.
Considering it's 105 years old in original issue configuration, it
shoots the Lee 150 RF, powder coated, checked and lubed
(seemed to help) over 17.5 grains of 2400 very accurately.
Non-shooters enjoy being able to accurately shoot this
historical piece with almost no recoil.
A Krag rifle made in 1913? Wouldn't production have stopped by then with the adoption of the 1903 ? That sounds very young for a Krag..

According to my B&S digital micrometer, my 1898 carbine slugs at .3096 and I shoot the Lee 309-200, PC'd and sized to .311. Accuracy is better than I can hold with iron sights.

Mine slugs about .312 and it happily chambers .314 boolits. i shoot the NOE version of the 314299 and have fantastic accuracy.
id be less concerned about what it slugs and more concerned about chamber/throat erosion, and general barrel condition.
I have a sportered Krag from a gunsmiths estate that is an absolute nail driver when shooting Speer .30 cal. 165 gr. SP.Robert
Mine loved the old Remington .310" RNCL 180 grs. It had a Redfield receiver sight and 5 shots in 1-1/4"@100yds was normal for my younger eyes back then. Amazing rifles; the pinnacle of American machining at the time and impressive still.

+1 on the Rem .310 180RN, I have a Krag with a sewer pipe looking bore, and can shoot egg sized groups with a moderate load of IMR 4064. To bad I only have a half a box of them left. If I ever find some Hornady .311 RN I'll give them a try also.
My .30-40 Krag is in a Winchester 1895 Saddle Ring Carbine, but it slugged at .310" as well. I'm planning to try some .312" boolits in it and might try a few that are powder coated as an option just to see how they shoot.
I may have passed my "Best Before" date, but I haven't reached my "Expiry" date!
How bad or good are they shooting .308 Jacket bullets in the larger barrels?

That is a question only your rifle can answer. I know that in my .3095 groove Krag, those dreadful little yellow .308 thingies can only turn in 4 - 5 MOA, but good well fitted cast bullets can turn in 2 MOA or slightly less all day long.Originally Posted by brstevns

I had one that sprayed, yes sprayed jacketed bullets all over a 24-36 sheet at 50 yards. Seriously, I'm not talking a 1-foot group, I mean anywhere on the sheet, anywhere on a 24" X 36" in sheet. Anywhere, I can not stress that enough. Loaded with .312 lead bullets and 16.5 grains of 4759 and it grouped. It grouped 1-1/2" or better at 100 yards.
Mine slugs a little over 309 and I shoot 311 sized bullets to better fit the throat. I use the NOE Lyman equiv 314299 with 17.5 gr 2400. It slays clay pigeons with abandon at 100 yards with a Lyman 48 peep sight and 20" barrel.
I've had several Krags and they all shot 308 Jackets. The last really good one I had was a Short Rifle.
It's the only one I shot cast. I shot a#308278 Ideal bullet of about 195gr as cast /12.5gr Unique at
about 1400fps. This shot well but no better than jackets. The jackets were salvaged GI bullets from
1905 Frankfort Arsenal 30/40s. These bullets also shoot very well from my 1895 Win in 30/06.
Of the 3 krags that I have 2 slug out at .3085 and 1 at .3095.the two at .3085 have 1903 springfield barrels on them the last one is an org.barrel.
My krag slugs .3095. The WCWW 311284 sized .311 works well for me.
