    heavy 35 Whelen bullets

    Hello friends,

I have a 35 Whelen that I am playing around with. I am having good luck with the Lee C358-200-RF. But I would like to try something heavier.

Would any of you guys have a 250 gr .35 cal bullet mold laying around? Ha!

I would like to try a few bullets in the 250-300 gr range if possible. Something like the Saeco #352.

If you can part with a few please let me know how much you want. I can return the favor in cash, cast bullets or bulk lead.

    Thanks for looking,

Important to know what twist rate your barrel has.

A 1:16" twist will handle up to about a 260-grain bullet if flat-nosed and short for its weight.

A 1:14" twist will handle the 300-grain Barnes in full charge loads or 280-grain Lyman #35008 even subsonic.

A 1:12" twist will handle a 300-grain cast bullet subsonic.

These are the two Accurate designs I use mostly.

Mine are plainbased and must be limited to about 1400 fps in a rifle, but perform well.

The 36-190T can be ordered with a 0.09" GC heel added which bumps the weight up to about 220 grains.
The 36-245D can be ordered with a 0.09" GC heel added which bumps the weight up to about 270 grains.

HE wants to know what YOU know.
    Keep it to yourself.

Thank you guys for the generous offers! I will check my twist rate this evening when I get home and we will go from there.

    You guys are the best!

Okay gents, I checked my rifle.

    It has a 1-14" twist, 24" barrel.

    What would you guys recommend?

    Lee,

That sounds like a great deal. But I think I will pass. Thank you any ways.

I have the NOE 360-310- FN Thumper plain base that I am working with in a 358 winchester 1-14 twist. With the short throat in 358 I am going to have to nose size them down about 2 thousands to get them seated so they are in the neck instead of down in the shoulder but with 5744 I am getting 3" groups at 100 yards at about 1250 fps. If you Whelen has a little longer throat, which I suspect it does they would probably be worth a try unless you are wanting to shoot them harder than 1400 fps. PM me if you would like to try a few. OILY
