Smelting Wind Guard

I was looking for something to make a wind guard for my blending pot and found a sheet of 1/16" Corten steel. I cut the 48.5" sheet to 12 inches wide. I figured each side with a square and rule at 5.75" and made 8 45 degree bends with a 36" HF brake. I tacked it together with oxy/acetylene, reducing flame.

The neighbors will think it's just another one of those artsy firepit thingies. LOL

Nice job. I use a welding blanket inside of a Weber grill I converted. Yours looks way nicer.

I did basically the same with a metal 5 gal bucket with the burner over a hole cut in the bottom and the bucket cut and rejoined around the pot supports. Uses half the propane and time.

After seeing you very nice windbreak, I feel like a redneck.
I just use a couple of metal bladed snow shovels propped against the sides.

Thats a nice looking job! I tack welded some light plate around mine and I got a little too aggressive. They chocked my flame back and I had to do a little cutting.

Looks better than mine. Used an old BBQ cut down and used some braces and metal from the BBQ, finished the metal work with pieces from an old hot water tank (just used the outer skin). It sit about 3 inches up from the ground and stops 6 inches above pot on the sides.

I had some galvanized sheet laying around - I rounded the corners so I wouldn't tear up my arms and pop-riveted it to my Bayou Classics cooker. The wind got frisky once and knocked it off the picnic table popping one side loose, and I'll get around to fixing that some day... I have another picture, but I guess it has too many pixels, and the site won;t accept it. Dang...

Echo, that's my cooker. LOL I would have done round but thicker steel is the only thing that survived the fire. The Corten steel was an artsy generator shed I tore down years ago. It seems obvious now but it took me a week to think of the bender. I bought it a couple months ago to make a belt guard when I couldn't find a decent one. The belt guard looked so good I thought the metal might make nice shelves over the stove but painted primary blue.

I like the look of the wind guard and I'm thinking 30 inches tall it might make a nice table base maybe round glass top.

Good work. I made mine out of 2x2 padio stones held together with mortar.

Wow. I'm impressed. My solution is to stand there while waiting for the pot to come up to temp and think that I could really use a wind break. That's the extent of my wind break solution.

It worked! Cut melt time by over half. No alloy sticking to the sides.

Nice job and it does look like artwork. I just put few rivets in ends of a piece of roof flashing to formed into a cylinder.

The burner on mine sits a lot lower, actually under the rack and exposed to the wind. Bought a piece of stove pipe, cut a notch for the gas line, fits perfectly underneath. Problem solved.
