I don't think they made more than a couple of these rifles, along with the 307 Winchester. Unfortunately I bought a "set" of them thinking I was going to upgrade from my 30-30. But, my wife kills her 3 deer with the 356 every year. At some surprisingly long ranges. I am lucky I bought 500 new brass for each of these rifles when I bought the rifles. But of course I later found out that appropriately loaded or reformed 308 brass work just fine in both of these rifles.

We believers are still making them. In the last 5 years I had Regan Nonneman rechamber a Marlin 30AS to 307 and JES rebore and “ trapperise” a 30AS to 356. Luckily I have a lifetime supply of brass for both because they were very under appreciated rounds. Deadly on our Central NY whitetails.

care to post what powders you are using with cast bullets in your .356?

444 Marlin can be reformed, trimmed to .356 and .307 (Starline,Hornady) if .308 brass won't work for you. On a 336, a .35 Rem bolt fit to your .356 should allow the use of .308/.358 brass. Most will take a .308 case, maybe some will need just a little relief on the bolt face.

I form all my 356 brass from 444 and actually prefer it to the factory 356 brass.

My go to powder for cast is IMR 3031.
