    Lyman Micrometer Die Question

Have the below pictured die and I have never seen one before. Don't know what caliber? Printed on die is Lyman-M-S-2A Any info appreciated.

    Thanks in advance

Is it a seater or expander? And shouldn't it have a lock ring on the upper part?

I have the exact same die, marked "LYMAN M.S.3." It is a bullet seater, with micrometer depth adjustment. The die is marked like a regular micrometer, each division on the top part is 001", one full turn is .025". The next part of the die (barrel or sleeve in micrometer terminology) has markings representing .100", .050" and .025". No lock ring is needed, there is a spring detent which locks the top part. As you turn it, you feel a "click" and each click is .001" of adjustment. In the bottom of the die, there is a sliding sleeve which guides the bullet and case neck for concentric in-line seating. I bought this die brand new in the early 80s, mine is a 22-250 die. It's probably been at least 20 years since I last used it.
