I opened up YouTube the other day and it suggested I watch a video of one the old Rifleman series. It was fun. Brought back a lot of memories. Anyone know what cartridge he was shooting? Anything about the rifle?

Winchester 1892 SRC in 44 WCF. I have read that there were two or three rifles used during filming ( all the same model )
Being human is not for sissies.
44-40 he was taught by Rod Redwing and he actually did the intro shooting but they dubbed in a couple of shots to make it sound better. The Rifles were either Winchesters or el Tigre Spanish guns for the rough work. Chuck was ambidextrous and could spin and fire with both hands. The original gun was a standard trigger but after Chuck pinched his fingers doing the fast shooting they adapted them to use a screw in trip on the trigger for rapid fire. All the guns were modified to feed by spin cocking. Somewhere I have the plans but it was a peg that caught the nose of the bullet or blank crimp and retracted for firing.
Google Rod Redwings article from Guns Magazine in the 60...I taught the stars to shoot???? He was also the fellow killed at the opening of Gunsmoke.
Just love the old westerns have local channel that shows them pretty much 24-7.
Sometimes you see him do the rapid firing and then spin the gun. I used to wonder what would happen if he hadn't emptied the magazine. Or try the rapid fire and forget he hadn't set up the gun for rapid fire.
Wow, I am fixing to be 60 years old and find out new things all the time. Thanks KCSO for all the information!
And Mark had a Win 1873 .22 in one episode where he lets an Axis buck get away

I just watched a video on that Winchester and it seemed to be longer than in the Rifleman. Was the rifle in the series cut down? Maybe It’s just that Chuck Connors was a tall guy and made it look shorter.
That TV series was very popular when I was 6 or 7 years old. I still remember the day I was gifted a new cap rifle styled after the Rifleman rifle. That cap rifle had a small flap of metal (aluminum?) inside the trigger guard. When the flap was down the rifle would cycle and fire only when I pulled the trigger. When the flap was up it hit the trigger to cause the rifle to fire when the lever was closed. Wow, that was along time ago, not sure how I even remembered all the details. I suspect the metal flap had a short life span from all the use and abuse it got.
Well I'm 45 and haven't seen many episodes but now you have we marathon watching it. I might not get anything done today. lol

Conners was 6 foot 7 inches tall, he was a former professional basketball player for the New York Knicks and also a baseball player, first base man, for the Chicago Cubs.
My wife and I like watching that show on Utube during dinner.Good show.
I watch the Rifleman re-runs every Saturday morning , they come on early and run for about 3 hours.
Nothing better than watching 6 Rifleman episodes , back to back , while sitting in bed , eating a bowl of Corn Flakes , in your underwear .
I might have gotten older but no body's going to make me grow up .

I believe Conners also starred in a later series called “Branded”, where he played a dishonorably discharged Calvary soldier.
My favorites were Paladin and Wanted Dead or Alive.
