    Sears Lever Action Rifles

    Hello All,

Apparently no interest in this topic as I have received no replies to the survey.
So I'm removing it from the forum as previously mentioned.

    Thanks to all, AntiqueSledMan.

    .

All Sears/Winchester leverguns are post-64's, with roll pins, and a stamped steel lifter until 1970, when Winchester made revisions to their post-64 economy dreams.

At that time, the roll pins & stamped lifter were changed to solid pins & a cast lifter.

AFAIK, pre-64 machined lifters will not easily swap into a post-64 action.

It's been stated that Sears stopped selling firearms in 1988, but I've never seen a Sears/Winchester lever action rifle based on the Winchester Model 94AE (angle-eject), which replaced the top-eject models in 1982.

Sears basically stopped selling firearms because they felt that the paperwork, records-keeping & responsibility had made selling them unprofitable.

And don't forget the JC Higgins name preceded the Ted Williams name.

    Shawlerbrook,

Model 45 as in the Big Book was available in 30-30 & 35 Rem. and was listed from1958 to 1965.
Both Models, 103.450 & 103.451 were manufactured by Marlin (336). I have seen the 103.450 stamped “J.C. Higgins Model 45” in both Block & Script text, and the 103.451 stamped “SEARS”. Marlin used the same serial number date code as on their 336 Marlins, so date of manufacture is easily determined. https://oldguns.net/sn_php/marlinlookup.php

    Pietro,

I partially agree, all Sears 54's & 100's are post 64 or New Model's, only asked on survey because of claims of pre-64 models. I have to disagree on your dates, I believe the 273.811 which has the Black Chrome finish & solid lever link pins was probably built in the 1968-1970 timeline. The cast carrier appeared about 1970 as did the Plastic Butte Plate.
I do agree about the angle eject. USRAC took over in 1981, I believe that was the end of the Sears contract.

    Texas by God,
As far as the J.C. Higgins, read above.

Hopefully owners of the Winchester built Sears & Ted Williams will send me answers from my survey.

That painted forend cap was pure hokey on the Sears/Win lever action. Easy to spot, though.

Go to Numrich Gun Parts web site. Search out their name/model conversion chart. It has most of the J.C. Higgins and Ted Williams models and will cross them to manufacturers model.

Here's a different angle and resource you might use in determining dates -- the Blue Book of Gun Values, and the Numrich Gun Parts catalog brand cross over lists. If you research them you might find out which models were produced by whom, and from what date to what date.

I can't remember the exact year that the Sears in my location (at the time) quit selling guns, but I think it was in the late '70s. I picked up twenty 20 round boxes of Sears brand .30-06 ammo made by Winchester with Silver Tip bullets and another 20 boxes of Winchester-made .30-30 ammo, 10 each 150 and 170 grain soft nose bullets, everything with Sears headstamps and for about $5 per box. Still have a lot of it.

    Guesser and Der Gebirgsjager,

The Blue Book of Gun Values does list the model 54 as original model 94, the 100 as original model NM94.
Numrich Gun Parts cross over is about the same (not much help).

The whole purpose of this survey is to find out just what is out there and to try to sort it out.

I do appreciate the help on this and hope owners will respond to the survey.
I plan on running this a few weeks, if no replies on survey I will delete it.

    Thanks again, AntiqueSledMan.

O.K.-- sorry about that. After looking at your PDF (which I did not notice originally) it appears that you're looking for features and variations and not really "how many were produced in this particular year." Having several Winchester '94s, but no Sears branded rifles I can't really help you. My take on it was that you wanted to know which models were made from what year to what year.
