    I need to CAST !!

    Summer is winding down
September will be here in a few days

LOL I have to many bullets cast for the rifle and pistol that I will be using for deer hunting
    Also lots cast for the 9 , 357/38 , 40 , 45 ACP , 44 Mag and 454 / 45 Colt

Just have the 32 S&W to work up some loads

So I have been casting Jigs and Spinner Baits to fish for Bass and Catfish

I just got back from fishing the Portage River
I planned on targeting Small Mouth Bass in some holes below SR 590 ( But the bass are biting in all the river )

I wanted to try out a NEW ( for me ) Color Spinner bait
A copper blade , brown and orange skirt with a Brown grub ..... think of a Crawfish Spinner bait

    First hole I got to
I anchored the boat below the hole and cast the spinner bait into the rapids just above the hole
I let the spinner bait sink to the bottom and slowly worked it into the hole , letting it drop when it got to the hole

Well the Small Mouth Bass loved the bait and how I was working it
But after 4 or 5 bass , I hooked something else

I thought I had hooked a freight train
I pulled the anchor and chased it down the river a little bit

It turned out to be a 26" Channel Cat .... FISH FRY LOL

I moved slowly down the river , hitting 4 more deep holes and caught both Large Mouth and Small Mouth bass
Also 9 more Channel Catfish , all on the spinner baits

I had to quit all to soon , as I only made 3 of the Brown / Orange with a copper blade spinner baits
1 is hanging from a tree limb , just out of reach
1 I lost in the rocks as it entered a pool

But the last one I still have .... well sort of
It is twisted and bent from another large channel catfish
I will reuse the blade and the skirt

But just reuse the lead to cast another spinner bait

I think I will try out the Maumee River for Bass and Catfish in a few days
But I will have a BUNCH of lures , not just 3

So if you are bored , maybe your catfish need to be thinned out for a fish fry LOL

    Cool

John, I also make my own spinner baits both in line and safety pin. My best color has been a clear body with a hot pink center, tube lure, that I call cotton candy, a white head and a silver Colorado blade. I found that it helps to paint or glue doll eyes to the head...…….robin

Those brass and copper blades work well on spinnerbaits here too.

I'm waiting for it to cool off a bit. In the meantime, I'll use up some neglected boolits...
