5k Bullets Pc and may need to scrape them

Last winter my son and I got into casting and powder coating some 5 k bullets (356-125-2R Lee) for our 9mm Glocks G43. I have an after market Blacklist Barrel for the reason i heard Glocks a picky with cast bullets. The bullet averages 130-132 and I sized before Pc and after. I am stuck on the Col or Coal in which i have to drastically reduce from 1.150 to almost 1.120 . This bothers me as my charge of 3.9-4.3gr Win 231 may have to be changed as well. The Col. of 1.120 seems to work in my plunk test of my barrel and it does eject and chamber, I am just not sure of the proper charge, I need a Safe Base Charge with the COL i am trying to use. If any help Please Let me know. Thanks oh and BHN of the bullet is around 15 maybe a 16. I use range scrape / Lyno and some hardball.

What does your load data give as a starting weight? Use the OAL that works and the starting load and check for pressure signs. Then work up from there.

I loaded that bullet to 1.065 with 3.5 grains of universal.

There is no load data for that particular bullet, only closest 130gr. Berb RN which winchester 231, dia 356 COL 1.150 using min 3.9gr max 4.3gr from hodgdonreloading.com . Wow really 1.065 at 3.5 grains. Are you PC your bullets or lube? How do you check for pressure signs?

Measure the depth of the powder and how deep the boolit goes into the case and see if you are compressing the load or not

I used load data for the Lyman 120 grain cast bullet. I powder coat my bullets. I load Hornady 147 grain XTP with 3.4 grains of Universal at an OAL of 1.080.

I shoot that bullet out of my SR9. Tried every tenth grain from min to max and couldn't hit anything until i got the COAL closer to 1.169. Haven't slugged my barrel but my theory is, it's a little big and deeper seating was squishing my bullets too small. 4.5 grains of unique puts em right in there. Also, I size them with the gun barrel.

I shot the same Lee 356-125-2R OAL 1.090 max under 4.3gr of HP38. I dont think you'll have any problems considering how much shorter my load was but I make no promises as every gun is different so this info is at your own risk. I had to load it that short in order for that round to chamber in my Canik TP9 SFX. That round is hard to work with if you have little or no throat as many new barrels do. Thats why I shipped my barrel to Doug to get throat properly reamed. I should be able to chamber .357 seated long now. I also just bought Lee 356-120-TC based on many positive posts here but its dropping little small so its barely .357 after PC. Wish it was little bit bigger.

Also what I noticed in my Canik with that Lee 356-125-2R is that I had to size it to .356 in order to chamber as .357 wouldnt fit. I didnt like that but I gave it a shot and tried running few rounds at .356. After initial few rounds I had rounds failing to completely chamber leaving gun out of battery. Clearing wasnt easy as bullets were getting stuck in the chamber. I found lead pieces and even one full ring cut out preventing next round from chambering. This is why I sent it to Doug to get throat properly reamed. I should be able to chamber .357 which i think will improve function and accuracy of that gun.

Going from 1.15 to 1.12 is not that drastic of a change. Find the longest OAL that works and you should be fine. I'm not sure what you mean by a charge of 3.9 to 4.3. I'm sure 3.9 will be fine. 4.3 is a max load and is probably OK for any regular 9mm but should be worked up to. In any gun rated for 9mm +P 4.3 should be just fine.

COL is mag and gun specific. Like others have said, find the length that kerplunks reliably. Start your load workups with a minimum charge, and workup to charges that are agreeable on paper and with gun function. For me, with a couple of guns, that bullet is seated quite short -- especially since mine are sized to .358 and powder coated.

I have that same mold and I use the bullets in 5 guns; 3, 9mm pistols and 2, 38
special revolvers. Both PCed and w/o PC, sized to 357" for 2, 9mms and the revolvers and .358" for one older 9mm. For my pistols I have been running them at 1.060 OAL an they plunk satisfactorily in my pistols...

I load that bullet for several different 9mm handguns. Powdercoated and sized .357", loaded to 1.100" works in all of them.

+1 I use 1.100 and size at .357 also. Works great in my Sub 2000, P9 and M&P.

I am going to work this for my starting point and adjust the powder up from 3.8, 3.9, 4.0 using a COAL 1.110

Every time you change bullets your OAL will change. Reduce charges & work it back up. 0.030" shorter OAL, unless you are at max, not a huge deal.
