    Frankford Arsenal Perfect Hand Primer

I'm hoping someone can shed some light on this.

I just received this product and I noticed on most of the photos I've seen, the orientation of the primer tray and thumb latch is on the sides. Mine has the primer tray and thumb latch in line with the shell holder. Does anyone know if there has been a modification on this product? I find mine a little cumbersome to unlatch and remove the shell holder. Also the latch is very hard to push down because of the weight of the spring. ( Arthritis and age). Maybe a lighter spring can be used for this purpose?
    Thanks.

Where did you purchase hand primer? A lot of knockoff stuff is coming from off shore and being sold on Ebay.

Not all knockoff stuff is bad, China knocked off some Nikes and had a better product.

Got it from Grafs. The photo of the item on their website shows the other version. The one I wanted.

Same here. The photo on Grafs website shows the other version. I think that one would make changing shell holders a lot easier.

I wish the Chinese would do a knock off of the old round tray Lee hand priming tool....
    I would buy one.

I sent Grafs an email stating that I would like an exchange if they could send me the one they show in their product photo.
Got it boxed up waiting to hear from them.

Be a cold day in hell I'd spend 57 bucks for the same capability to prime that Lee sells for 20 bucks?

    OK, here's the scoop.
I emailed the company that distributes them and received this very good explanation:

    Hello Richard,
The picture which you are referring to is an older photo from a few years back. The unit was changed and updated so the tray would be in line with the handle which allows for better primer feeding and reliability than the older models out the side did. As for the spring, we do not have another spring which is offered for the unit as it is stiff to insure the shell holder does not move around during use and cause a primer to misalign. You may be able to swap it out for a lighter spring if you can find one of a similar size. Thank you very much for your interest in Battenfeld Technologies, if you have any further questions feel free to let me know and I would be happy to help you out.

    Thanks to them, mystery solved.

I was using the Lee ergo hand primer for a long time - until it broke - plastic piece. I ordered a couple of new trays - folding ones and thought that would be the solution then found out I needed the rebuild piiece as well. In the meantime, I had ordered one of the FA hand primers. Mine is also "in line". I have absolutely no issues with it - it works like a charm and is a "quality" piece as far as I'm concerned. I like it enough that i'm going to order another one to have to use in AZ during the winter. Yep - more $ than a Lee but apples to oranges as far as I'm concerned. My Lee? It's up on the shelf and will stay there. And, oh yea . . . the new Lee folding trays are supposed to work on the FA had primer so ordering them wasn't a complete loss as I now have "back ups" for the FA.
