mattw, if you like the 4895 sc powder, try aa2520 powder, it's a ball powder and
meters well in powder measures. I use 26 grs 2520, under a 150 gr Ranchdog
bullet, 1800 fps, very accurate in my Savage 340 c rifle. Burns very clean.
Any of the versions of 4895, aa2520, and 3031 will use about the same charges
of powder. You just have to find the one that works for you.

A boolit not mentioned yet is the RCBS 30-180 FN. I have loaded thousands of them and they have performed well in a variety of Winchesters and Marlins. Sized .310 or .311, gas checked and loaded over 30 grains of 748, they are accurate and amply powerful for deer or pigs out to 100-150 yards. Oh, and they'll knock down hard-set rams.

I have the lee .309 170gn and i like the design but the nose on mine cast a little on the small side.

These are bore rider designs so the nose should be a sliding fit on the lands in the bore.

I ordered a .31-170E from Accurate molds. Same design but the Accurate mold drops bullets that are the right size.
