    Ruger American 7.62x39

I have had this carbine for almost 3 weeks. So far it has been fed steel, butI will handload for it as well. I also own a Mini 14 and have a couple of 20 round factory mags for it so I decided to try them. What I found was that as long as I didn't load more than 15-16 rounds the mags handled the AK rounds just fine. I suspect other shooters had the same experience before me. Of course, YMMV grasshopper.

I've been wanting to try one of the new improved Mini 14s but they're still too expensive (compared to an AR) IMO.
Cool that your Mini-30 will work with Mini-14 mags! Those darn Rugers.......

I have the bolt action carbine, not the Mini 30.

I had that caliber in a single shot once but got misfires from factory rounds and none from reloads. They use a stiff primer for the AK's and SKS to prevent slam fires. Also had the caliber in a Encore pistol. They would be a good round for introducing some people to hunting. Ruger sounds like a good rifle for that.

I have a question for you guys. When you reload for this rifle do you use .308 bullets or .311 bullets?

I have shot them all in mine.

110 grain .308 diameter Nosler Varmageddons, .308 diameter 125 grain Nosler Ballistic tips, 123 grain .310 Hornady VMax’s and Meister .312 diameter 115 grain hard cast boolits and all have performed very well.

I’ve taken a few coyotes with mine, this one was taken with a 110 Nosler Varmageddon with a max charge of Acurrate Arms 1680 (distance was just past 80 yards):

    The good side

    The bad side:

I do dearly appreciate mine and it is an exceptional shooter for its price point.

Wow. That's more damage than the one my buddy shot Sunday with his 6mm Rem!

    I too was shocked.

Velocity for that specific handload was right at 2600 fps.

That said, it appears that those 110 grain Nosler Varmageddons ain’t no joke.

They will flat turn a coyote inside out inside 100 yards.
