Some nice scores there, been a long time since I was involved.
Briefly, what is Field Pistol and Practical Hunter?

Field Pistol is shot on half scale targets. Distances are 25-50-75-100 yards or meters and must be shot off-hand (standing) using a Production gun. Straight wall cartridges and a few select lower powered bottleneck cartridges allowed.

Practical hunter was added a couple of years ago. There are 3 versions:
22LR is shot on the Smallbore course
Short Course is shot on the Field Pistol targets
Long Course is shot on the Big Bore targets
The rules for this are a little more lenient and the focus is to get people started using a gun that they already have. Beginners can use a rest or a bipod till they reach AAA class.

"The rules for this are a little more lenient and the focus is to get people started using a gun that they already have."

I know of some guys having a good time with this, BUT and a BIG BUT, they have been "INT" shooters for years. Shooting 40x40's is the big deal, which is fine. But they have veered from the intentions of the class. They could very well be intimidating new shooters from trying it.
The guys are all good friends and mentors of mine. I let them play.
When it first came about I shot a wheel gun through in a Keith style and even leaned my back up against a post Keith style, yet I caught a small amount of flack over that

Field Pistol has two categories. One is iron sights only, the other allows optics. Both must be a Production gun.

Practical Hunter is user choice on sights, but if scoped, the max magnification allowed is 6X.

The rules say any safe position, so I don't see an issue with leaning against a post.

As far as the long-time INT shooters in Practical Hunter, I hear what you are saying.......but, I have always held the view that PH would lure very few, if any, new shooters anyway. There were already categories for the guns that PH was intended for. Another take on this issue as far as long-time INT shooters. Here in south Louisiana, there are no Big Bore matches. PHSC allows those interested in doing so, to shoot centerfire, freestyle entries where no previous options were available. I have been able to take out a few safe queens and shoot them in PHSC. I do use iron sights only, though, and almost exclusively cast bullets. In PH22 I use one of my old 7 1/4" HS Trophy's with iron sights. I have never tried PHLC......I don't see the point.
