    Lube PC boolits or not?

I am new to PC'ing lead boolits for 9mm and 45 acp. A friend does lube his red HF powder coated boolits but I have read that it is not needed. Does lubing the PC coated boolits hurt? I have shot some lightly lubed 9mm loads and found little residue that was easy to clean out. I don't mind the small amount of smoke or the oilyness So, what to do?

    Thanks in advance!

There is no need to lube powder coated bullets. The powder coat is acting as a jacket, and will prevent leading.

mtgrs737: If your concern is leading, then no need to lube PC'd bullets. My opinion (It's just that and I'm open to be corrected on this) is that SOME rifle bullets MAY benefit from lubrication in that the lube can work as a piston ring for a better gas seal as when I shoot PC'd bullets in my M-N that has a .316+ bore and a chamber neck that only accepts .314 bullets. Easier than neck turning and works for me. Gp

As already correctly stated, there is no "need" to lube a powder coated boolit.

I really don't see any harm in doing so though if you don't mind the mess. For me personally (I used to tumble lube) not lubing and dealing with the mess has been one of the nicest things about powder coating. I've cleaned all of the lube out of my dies and will NEVER go back.

In fact I just cast and powder coated boolits to test in my muzzleloader. These are for hunting purposes. If I can't get at least 2-3 shots without swabbing the bore I always have the option to use a little bore butter on them.

The only reason I have seen "lubed" powder coated bullets is because somebody left grease in the Lubesizer...

OK, thanks for all the replies. I am very new to PC and I was wondering what others are doing so I don't mess up a bunch of boolits.

Thanks Much! You guys are great!

I also do lube some and don't others, still experimenting and will continue to do so for the near future, in my cupboard at the moment Ive got a couple powder coated Boolits sitting patiently in a small pill bottle with 1/2'' titegroup and another bottle the same only they are very lightly coated with LLA and will let them sit another 4 weeks or so and see if in fact (as some have reported) the Titegroup does affect the powder coat and if also the light coat LLA will be a barrier and compare same, we shall see, all my guns apart from my Sharps with Black powder don't "need" lubricated powder coated cast Boolits but half the fun is trying so why not make your own conclusions as well and get some more trigger time

Lubing PC doesnt hurt. Its not needed but will not hurt. I am not the best at PCing and have lubed some that leaded and they didnt lead afterwards.
