The answer was right there the whole time. I just couldn't see it.
So, the postman delivered 2 new Saeco molds this morning. My first ever Saeco Molds.
I got straight into prepping them and casting.
The .44 mold worked great and was dropping good bullets almost straight away.
After casting 120 boolits with the .44 mold i switched to the .357 mold.
The boolits were coming out great but the sprue plate screw was coming loose on just about every cast. No matter how much i tweaked the sprue plate screw the wretched thing was loose again on the next pour. Arrrghhhh. After 24 boolits i gave up.
I felt surely Saeco would have put a set screw to lock the sprue plate screw. I looked and there was no set screw where i thought it should be.
I put the mold aside to cool and went off to do other chores while it stewed in my mind most of the day.
Later in the afternoon i thought screw it (pun intended) i'm going to drill and tap the block and put a set screw to lock that sprue plate screw in place.
I went to the workshop, found a set screw, a matching tap and the appropriate drill.
I removed the sprue plate screw and it was then that i noticed a brass plunger in the hole. I literally thought huh? How is that in there?
I looked at the mold again and sure enough, there IS a set screw to lock the sprue plate screw. It was on the face perpendicular to where i expected it to be and i just couldn't see it in my frustrations.
I have to laugh at my own stupidity in these situations.
