Long range sharps type sight that mount to picatinny bases

Does anyone make a long range type sight like you see used
on the sharps rifles that will fit a weaver or picatinny type base.

I want to play with one for long range iron shooting on a
contender, pistol barrel first and then a rifle length later.
    Those sights ain't cheap.
If I could swap it between weaver bases it would be right handy.

What say the educated masses on such things.....?

    Thanks

Never seen one like that but you can get sights for highpower competition that clamp to a pic rail. Not inexpensive though, and not terribly tall.

There are "modern apertures that use both weaver / picatinny rails and unertal sized. For "modern" calibers they have plenty of elevation. one that comes to mind is the centra sold by sinclairs years ago.

The rear aperture is normally mounted close to the eye for use. With the contender at arms length seeing thru the aperture is going to be harder. On a rifle with the sight close to the eye its a quick easy to use sight and very accurate.

For the long range verniers it wouldn't be hard to make a base for the staff to fit in. Normally you by the staff and add the base to fit the rifle they go on. The other issue will be most staffs are made to go on the wrist tang of stick on the barrel they will be way tall. The Centra and RPA are meant to be mounted on top if the receivers and much lower to sight line

I know a long eye relief aperture would not be ideal, and I know I will have to play with larger openings.
I have a set of the excellent silhouette sights from E Arthur Brown on a 14'' Thompson Contender barrel.
But I run out of elevation around 250 yards.
I would like to have enough to go to 6 or 7 hundred yards.
If group sizes out there prove completely unfun...... I may regroup and put my long range sight on a 30-30 barrel.
But I will give the Centra and RPA a look and see what I can find.
Would anyone have any ideal of what size aperture I will need at full arm extension? 5/16, 3/8??
    Thanks

Contender barrel with E Arthur Brown sights is a 44 Magnum.
