Scott Powders

I have some Scott left over from shooting sporting clays.
Pearl and Royal Scott,Anyone else tried to load this in a pistol?

Never had either of those, but I do have a load brochure of theirs. Most shotgun powders are highly amenable to handgun use, so they ought to usable.

Any particular cartridge in mind?

Tho' I've not used Royal Scott, I have used Pearl.
With a 6" M57 .41 Mag, I put some 170gr TC on top of 8.2gr for 970fps. 8.8gr gave me 1185fps.
Using an RCBS 210gr SWC with 7.0gr gave me 985 fps and 9.0gr went 1165fps.
When I went to a HPed cavity in my RCBS mold, 7.5gr netted me 1085fps.
I've used some S2000 and it is a "little" faster than Unique, so the velocities are a little higher than Pearl. IIRC, Royal is between the two.
Any Scott is fun to use as their main talking point is the cleaness of their burning. Even at reduced pressures, the barrel is left with almost no ash. I'll usually have at least some in cabinet.

I bought a large box of powders at an estate auction. In the box were 5 un-opened 1 lb. cans of Scott 1500. I can`t seem to locate anybody that has data for using it in either pistol or shotshell loads, Accurate Arms ignores my requests for help.Robert

It can be loaded to Accurate Solo 1500 data.

Be careful as it is not the same thing as Solo 1250.

Pearl Scot was very close to AA5 or HS-5 in speed and was probably dropped from the Accurate line when they bought Scot as a result. I would use AA5 starting loads for it.

Royal Scot is a bit more fun in that there are 2 versions of it. Royal Scot and Royal Scot D.

The original Royal Scot is pretty close to green dot in burn rate. Royal Scot D is closer to AA2. I used to load D at 3.8gr behind a 200 swc in the 45 ACP for a nice target load.

I recall hearing it's like Red Dot.

from the third post in the linked thread below.

Scot Powder Company, 4th Ed. loading manual

"Red Diamond A high efficiency, double base, 12 gauge square-flake powder which replaces Red Dot exactly for all shotshell and pistol loads. Contains red-colored grains for identification."

This powder didn't hang around very long; its pending introduction was announced in the 1994 Handloader's Digest, it showed up in the product line in the 1995 edition and wasn't listed in the 1996 edition.

The Scot powders were advertised as single based, which they hyped as cooler burning. I have a reloading guide from Scott powders, if anyone needs caliber specific loads let me know.
