    Question Rcbs 80001, 80008 & 80009?

    Hello fellow boolit casters. In the last year I picked up used but in good condition Lyman 4500 and more recently, 9 tubes of RCBS rifle lubricants as listed in title.
    I searched the web and didn't find a whole lot of info.
    I am mainly casting for; 30-30, 308 & 30/06.
    I haven't received these yet so I have no ideas of colour or texture.
    Thx in advance.

    I had still have some of the # 80009, it is listed as rifle, a brown color and has that old NRA 50-50 smell, is soft enough not to have to use a heater. Have used it for a few years in all my rifle calibers from 30-30 to 50-110 and no problems with it.
    Have 8 sticks left and when that is gone will be changing to a white label lube just because of cost.

    I bet a call or E-mail to rcbs would clear things up some.

    I bet you're right. Figured I'd ask here first. If all else fails I will do that

    I got more than 2 dozen sticks of the 80008 when my dad passed along with his reloading stuff. It's a green waxy stuff in hollow core sticks for the Lyman #45 that was with it. Used over a dozen sticks of it so far over the years in both pistol and rifle bullets and I've got no complaints about it, seams to work well. When my supply eventually runs out, not sure what I'll replace it with. Only thing I can say about this stuff is that it works so far for me. How it compares to others is unknown.

    I got an answer from RCBS;
    THE 80008 IS PISTOL LUBE
    THE 80009 IS RIFLE LUBE.
    IF THE 80001 IS GREEN IT IS PISTOL AND TAN FOR RIFLE.

    Interesting. You don't see much about RCBS and Lyman lube because they are much more expensive than White Label and our other forum vendors.

    I have used both green and tan. The green shot some of the best groups ever fired from my Rossi '92 in 45 Colt.

    I exhumed this thread because I had to fill up my lube sizer today. I had a tube of RCBS 80008 on the bench so decided to use it. My understanding is 80008 is for pistol and supposed to be green, however this one was light tan. Seemed to be about medium softness and stickiness, it flows nicely through my Lyman 450. Hopefully it will coat the bore well with lower pressure handgun loads. Was using Tac-X, which is great for rifles but too hard for my pistol loads. I hope 80008 works well, as it's always in stock at the fun store.
