    Thinking of trying this

From reading here, it seems like it's worth a try.
Want to do it "on the cheap"
I plan on seating the gas check before coating.
I have a toaster oven I use to dry shells.
    Tumble in a plastic container.
Who has the best price for the powder?????
HF has it, #1 for $6.99 + $6.99 ground shipping.
I'm not sure they will ship to me.
Color is not that important as i'm just trying it.

HF powders work but there not the best, coverage can be spotty.

You get what you pay for usually. Smokes pc is what I use.

    This will get you there.

If it is worth your time and money to give it a try then start off right and order your powder from Smoke. His powders work for what you want to do and he ships promptly. If you start out with HF powder, something that is mediocre at best, and it doesn't work then what have you gained? PC is a simple process, it is an easy process and it works extremely well when you use the right components and the right process. I would wish you good luck, but luck has nothing to do with it, so happy coating.

I use HF red because that's what I bought (not knowing any better) and I feel like I have to use it up because I'm cheap....I mean "thrifty". I also broke into casting, starting with my AR15. Don't do either one of those things to yourself. I got everything worked out eventually but it was a painful struggle.

We don't have much static electricity here.
    Not dry enough.
Does it make that much of a difference with or without the plastic beads????
I was going with heating them in the oven, before coating.

abunaitoo: Before you set yourself up for major disappointment please do a bunch of reading up here on Boolits coatings and alternatives threads. This has all been pretty much figured out and documented here as to what does and what doesn't work. You will be far ahead to heed the advice given and just take it on faith than you will be trying to reinvent the wheel. Pay special attention to dragonhearts posts and the learning curve will be much shorter. Once you have powder coating down you will love the results. Good luck my friend Gp

Agreed. But don't let anybody tell you something can't be done either.

If you pre heat them, the powder will stick better but be careful on how hot you get them. They burn holes in your plastic bowls.... yup been there done that, walked away from the over for 10 second, I swear mom only 10 seconds. Right.... then the powder and BB's leak out on the floor.

I found if they are hot to the touch, not so hot to blister but just enough that you don't want to hold on to them for long, you are probably good to go. I usually do this when it gets below 30*, but not sure you have that problem in HI. Our humidity is usually low less then 30%, so have never had to deal with that.

Go to smokes corner in the vendor section. He has simple instructions, and they work great. I did that and had good success from the beginnng.

Just to back up above comments... But good powders, makes a difference no doubt.

HF works, but there is better.

After getting a bunch of HF and 'no joy,' I sold them to a member for cost of shipping

this is a hobby for me and should be fun--HF powder was not fun and it was worth the little bit of loss to get rid of the HF and go to smokes.

I have taken my PC into the house and let it dry out when I've been PC in damp weather. Worth the effort for me

I'm going to order from Smokes Corner.
    One question.
    May sound silly.
Does it make a difference if the airsoft pellets are white instead of black????
I have white one's, yellow one's, but never seen black one's.

abunaitoo: Yup, it makes a difference, same as the #5 on your shaking bowl makes a difference. In your climate I would give an entry level electrostatic gun some serious thought. I have the basic Eastwood gun and you can find them on sale at times for $60 Mine has had a lot of use in the last couple years and it works much better than "shake and bake" for powders like flat black, white and any of the Harbor freight stuff. That said, you will get good results shaken and bakin if you use a quality powder like Smoke sells. Gp

You won't go wrong with powder from Smoke. If you want to expand your color selection look at Prismatic Solid Color Powders.
The Black BB's are heaver so it appears the additional density makes a difference. However, I have used red and I find them better than nothing, but if you are purchasing I would go for the black. Since I use a home-built tumbler the BB's provide some cushion as well as more surface area to generate a charge.

I'll start with ordering the powder from Smokes Corner.
Try it and see if it's something I'd like to keep on doing.
    Use my white pellets.
I have a toaster oven, pans and containers.
Even have extra vibrator bowls, but I'll try the containers first.
Have a bunch of Lee sizers.
    Wish me luck

I believe that Smoke also sells the black bbs. Might as well do it right the first time, eh?

I can powder coat in the middle of a thunder storm with excellent results. I heat up my boolits in my toaster oven for a few minutes and dump them in my number 5 container. I don't go over 150 degrees, and only heat them for a few minutes. I seem to get better results, I can't explain why. I do only use Eastwood and Smokes powders.

    Just ordered some powder.
    Red, orange, green.
I was going to heat them first, then tumble with plastic bb's.
I'll check the toaster oven to make sure it get's hot enough.
Got it a long time ago from Good Will.
Don't see them around much anymore.
