    Load data for H870, H5010 and AA8700

Just picked up a bunch of these powders really cheap. Can’t find much online so figured I’d post here. Looking to use it for 308, 30-06, 45-70 for CB. Anyone have any load data for them for those calibers?

You'll have to duplex all those to get much out of them in the cartridges listed. The loads are simple, a few grains of kicker powder and as much of the slow stuff you can get in the case, tightly compressed.

You have my attention. I have a pound of h870 that I didn't know what to do with. How many grains of Bullseye should I use for the booster charge?

I have 10 lbs H870. My 7mm rem mag loves it my 300 wby not so much, go figure. But no doubt you can't double charge it in either case as it is a compressed load or very close.

Accurate Arms has loads at their web site for the AA8700 in 30-06 and 45-70 I know, not sure for the 308.
With out the kicker, I think they are all about like black powder some burns and the rest goes out the front of the barrel.

    http://www.accuratepowder.com/

I will have to look but somewhere I have chrono data for 8X57 and load data for the others.

I thought so, my later Accurate Arms load data manual was no help, but the old red one has the following . . .

    30-06
    152 RNGC
    54.0 1760 60.0 2000

    180 FNGC
    54.0 1759 60 1999

    210 RNGC
    54.0 1772 60.0 2014

    45-70

    405
    54.0 1025 60.0 1165 11,700 PSI

There are more loads in the manual than I have listed, but this should get ya started.

I used to use 61 grains of H870 with a 180 bullet in my 30-06...Heavily compressed, very slow, low, low pressure, and heavier recoil than "normal" loads...I used CCI 250 primers in R-P cases...

Thanks for posting this, I have quite a bit of AA8700 and have used it with heavy jacketed loads in the 7mm Rem Mag. Need to try it in other stuff now.

I think that I have 1 lb. left of H870 from way back when Hodgon would send you a lb. at no cost if you sent X amount of inner jar seal of their other powders. I think I got 5 or 6 lb. that way. It is a very slow powder best suited for mag cartridges with heavy `J` bullet loads.Robert

I don't like using powder that fast for the kicker. Something in the range of 4227, lil gun, 2400, etc is smoother and safer. Usually 5 gr. Or so is plenty. You just want to get the main charge actually burning.

What Nobade said. Stay away form the ultra fast powders. I usually use 4198. Keep charges compressed and don't use very fine or ball powders that could migrate into the main charge. It hasn't been said yet in this thread so be Very careful if attempting to duplex. Duplexing is not recommended by any powder company. With heavy for caliber cast boolits and the mentioned powders all that is needed much of the time is just a good magnum primer. The Federal 215 is your friend. A case full of H870 to WC860 in the 30-06 with a 220 gr cast is no wimpy load. I even get good results in the .308 with just a slightly compressed charge of WC860 a Fed 215 primer and the Lyman 311284.
As bore to case ratio goes up there is only so much you can do with very slow powders. Accuracy is generally good but they get a little dirty with unburned powder in the barrel. In the 35 Whelan for example the 215 is not enough. I switch back to a std. Large rifle primer and use a kicker. In this caliber I have gone as high as 9 gr of 4198 with a 280 gr cast gc. This load is Powerful burns clean and accurate. Safe in MY rifle. But Hey a medium charge of AA2230 is a little more accurate with a whole lot less monkey business. Be safe

A few kernels left, but very pleasant to shoot and quite accurate to at least 235 yards.

I have a 1974 Hodgdon manual and no loads for cast with those powders.
As stated the Accurate manuals has data for AA 8700. I use it mostly for my 50-140-3.25 loads.

There is no problem so great, that it cannot be solved by the proper application of high explosives.
