jimb16 may have the answer. As I recall, I lubed the boolits by dipping them in alox 50/50, no sizing. However, this may be negated because recently I discovered the boolits were sized down by loading them in the cases. I also load cast in .270. 7.62X39, 35 Remington (all with gas checks) but to a limited amount so I can't comment on leading.

I've only shot jacketed bullets in my M1 Carbine. I've been concerned about lead shavings in the gas system. Has that been an issue for any of you folks?

I was worried about that also.
After shooting well over 500 cast, I checked the gas piston.
Nothing but carbon.
I'm thinking that if the boolets are sized correct, so not to get any leading, fouling of the piston is a non-problem.
This was done testing different powders, boolets, and primers.
Then again, I might just be lucky.

I tried some PC boolets I just started playing with.
Thinking it might have been the lube causing the fouling.
It still fouled.
Had to run a snake through it almost every third shot to get it to chamber.
I'm now thinking the I4198 is just to slow.
It did shoot good.
Going to try some 5477.

Ain't gonna happen. Never seen it happen. Complete BS. Shot tens of thousands of cast in various M1, M2 carbines, no issue. Larry can confirm. Gas port close enough to breech that port pressure high enough to keep the aperture clear. Run the gun and enjoy.

Accurate has several designs for M1 carbine that work well. I use mostly 31-100T plainbase with no GC, with 7.4 grains of AutoComp, or compressed nominal case full of 4198, either run like a pony trotting, accurate. If you think you absolutely "must" have a GC then get 31-120TG

abunaitoo: My favorite powders in the 30 carbine are VV- N-110, H-110 and IMR 4227 in that order. I load mostly the Lee 120gr,RN but have had no problems getting the Lee 113gr RF (same bullet with a flat nose) and the Lee 314-90-SWC to feed. I do have to size the SWC down quite a bit but it's a TL mould and all my bullets for the carbine are powder coated and sized .309 or .310 mine doesn't seem to care about the .001 difference. Use a 117 grain cast bullet that is powder coated and a home made gas check is installed on the plain base cast bullet. Use VV-N-10 most of the time but have used H-110 when the VV powder was not available. No leading and gun barrel very clean. Have shot a lot of these bullets in a M1 Carbine.

I've been playing with this for a little while now.
Tried all the different powders I have on hand.
Three different boolets.
Three different primers.
So far 11gr of I4227, CCI small rifle primers, with a Lyman 115/310 GC, seems to work the best.
Function, accuracy, consistency, all about as good as I can shoot.
Or at least as good as this rifle can shoot.
Just about done.
I just want to try one last powder. 5744.
This is what is fun to me.

I have a fair amout of the old Winchester 680 powder. My understanding is that it is one of the better powders for 30 carbine?

Outpost, I did have ONE carbine that had problems with leading of the gas system. I think there may have been a burr on the gas port that caused it. None of the others that I had ever had problems. I won't say it can't happen because I had it happen, but I will say it is very rare to have it happen.
