    Zastava made 7.62x39 help needed--Updated

I'm getting one of the Zastava made Mini Mausers M85 rifles in 7.62x39 without a bolt. I can get a bolt for a .223 Remington Zastava Mini Mauser easily, and am hoping to be able to open the bolt face up for 7.62x39.
Does anyone have one of the Zastava made Mini Mausers in 7.62x39 and can measure the breech face for me? This of course includes the Remington 799 and the Charles Daly.
    TIA.

Wish I could help you. Have you tried asking Century Arms about it?

A little over the .447" base diameter of the x39 cartridge is the simple answer but it would help to have an example of the bolt handy.

Agreed. That is why I am trying to find someone who has one. SAAMI specs for the 7.62x39 rim is .447"-.010". Similarly, specs for the .223 Rem/5.56Natio is .378"-.010". Someone has given me a measurement of .384" for the bolt head recess for the .223Rem. So, I'm looking at a dimension of .450"-.453"(11.5mm).

I've got one of those 7.62x39 Zastavas. Exactly what measurement do you need?

The bolt face is milled .05" deep.

And the bolt face is .451" wide, measured with my NSK dial caliper.

I don't have a tool to measure how wide the firing pin hole is. I also don't know what you'll have to do with the extractor.

Thanks, 3AXBAT! That's exactly what I needed. I pick up the rifle tomorrow, and the bolt should be here on Monday. Then the fun begins.

How are you going to set headspace?

I'm still working on that one. Guages will be ordered tomorrow, and we'll see what happens when I get everything together.

I've got 2 headspace guages on the way. Once they get here, I plan on grinding down the rim on the NoGo guage so that it can fit into the
223 Rem bolt face cut. As long as the bolt doesn't close on the NoGo guage I can then proceed to the next step. Opening up the bolt face.
Once I open up the bolt face to the proper dimensions for the the 7.62x39 case, I will have the Go guage to check the minimum headspace.

    Update.
Got the little rifle, which came without a bolt
I located a bolt with a .223 Rem bolt face, and opened it up to .453". Which seems to be working fine so far.
As far as headspace goes. Since the gun was made in Europe, the chamber more than likely is cut to CIP specs. The bolt won't quite close on a CIP GO guage. But it seems to close okay on some dummy reloads that I have made.
So I think that I am good to go.

    Only one way to know......

I enjoy my Mini Mk X in 7.62x39 a lot.

Just don't let your wife shoot it! I let mine shoot the Interarms Mark X 7.62x39mm Zastava mini-Mauser rifle that I built from a barreled action years ago and it's been "hers" pretty much ever since then ...

I may have passed my "Best Before" date, but I haven't reached my "Expiry" date!
