8-10 gr of unique , 12-15 gr. of 2400 both with a good fitting 170 ish gr bullet should put you in the vel range your after .
If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck!
My favorite is 16 grains of 2400 with a 165-170 grain cast. Very accurate and does not hurt with a metal butt plate!

Used in my old Winchester 30-30 lever. My bestus load is 25.2gr 4895SC Lyman 31141. That is a tack driver, works well with the Ranch Dog bullet as well! But, you did not want a full power load.

For pure target loads use a full weight boolit (150-170 grains) over red dot or bulls eye. Start at 5 grains.
Paper targets aren't your friends. They won't lie for you and they don't care if your feelings get hurt.
I like 31141 around 1800 fps in my Little Sharps. Deadly on drink cans at 100 yds. Imr 4198 or RL 7 is what i have been using but after reading here may go to 2400.

Found a mold I had forgotten that I had.
2 cavity Lee 150 gr flat nose with gas check.
Cast 50 of them couple days back in half an hour. Out of the 60 cast, culled 3. No wrinkles, 3 out of the first few pours had incomplete fill.
After that they were all gems.
Loaded them over 6.5 grains of Red Dot with a couple of light coats of BLL and left a fan on low blowing on them overnight.
No stickys, can hardly see they have been lubed.
Those shoot equally well out of my Win 94 dirty thirty (yes the new model with the safety)
Or my .30-30 Handi rifle. Handi rifle has the advantage of a scope or Red Dot.
And I am packing up my 1944 built Win 94 to go to JES rebore next week to become a 1-16" twist, 3 groove .35-30-30.
I had admiting I'm beat but even with .316 cast it totally missed paper 9 out of 10 at 25 yards.
So she is going to JES to get reamed.
Will have more money into it than I like by the time I'm done. But I strongly suspect she'll be a shooter when she comes back. And that is all I wanted.
The Lee 150g is a great bullet over Red Dot, 2400, Rx7 and 4198. I think it does better with the faster powders.

Hard to go wrong with a modest charge of 2400 or 4227 under just about any suitable and proper fitting boolit. Many of the current Scheutzen shooters are very big fans of 4227 in their rifles ...
I may have passed my "Best Before" date, but I haven't reached my "Expiry" date!
Have to admit that's a good one too for serious fun shooting my plain base load for my 32 special is 6 gr Bullseye I have a ladder type rear sight on my rifle so making those sight corrections is easy

4.6 grn bulleye over a 308403 pope clone with a tuft of dacron.
It doesn’t engrave on the nose in my gun but still shoots 1” at 100yrds and had size groups at 328 yards.
Most well fitting 150 -180 grn bullets work pretty much the same.
Yes that sure seems to be the load! And brass life is infinitely long and a pound of powder sure goes a long way; and I use it it primarily for plinking and having kids like my 7 year old niece get shooting a full
Size deer rifle with no recoil and noise but at the woods and swamp ranges common here in Northern MI I think a well placed shot would still put venison on the table even on our large corn fed deer.
