when the doctor and thai navy seals are out safely then it is time to cheer. Not saying it isn't great that the coach and 12 boys are out just want to see ALL get out safely.

I truly expected them to lose one or more kids bring them out. It would have only taken a slipped mask, facefull of water and panic mode to kill one or more.

    That's great news.

I'm thinking of the family of the EX-NAVY DIVER who died during the rescue

Saman Gunan died for his country while daring to rescue those young men.
He did not die dreaming in a rocking chair!
Saman Gunan will be remembered and honored for as long as there is a Thai Navy.
Saman Gunan set a standard the Thai's will remember forever.
I bet we will read in later years about some of these boys growing into men and enlisting in the Thai Navy.

I'm sure we were all saying a lot of prayers for those kids and their coach as well as for those working to get them out, no matter how big or small their part.

rich - I agree with you. Saman Funam gave his life for others - something he knew was a possibility when he chose to be a Seal and yet he was ready to do whatever he could - something that anyone who joins the military knows. I certainly hope tat at some point, he is memorialized somehow to show others the importance of personal sacrifice in service to others.

Yes, the story was covered on the news - but one thing I found strange was that years ago, this would have been a major story that would have had everyone glued to the TV sets, praying for success and for all those involved - not unlike when Kennedy was assassinated - things just "stopped" for a few days while the world watched. Unfortuanately, IMHO, the events of the trapped kids and those who came to rescue them had little effect on the bickering and fighting on the political scene here where everything is getting blown out of proportion and common sense and level heads seem to be lacking. Perhaps if, just for once, the news media would forget their political agendas and focused on this story ore, people would have realized what the important things really are in this world? i.e. giving your all for others when the need arises.

God Bless the kids and coach - they will have a lot to live with the remainder of their lives and perhaps it will help them all to realize the important things in life - and God Bless all the men and women who worked so hard to get them out. Saman Gunan - may you rest in peace and know that your sacrifice saved the lives of those kids and coach - you did your duty and showed the entire world the meaning of "giving all" for the sake of others.

the pumps failed shortly after the people got out, the doc and seals came out as the water was rising. So very good all got out except for the one seal, lost of life to try and save others, he did what he was taught, help when you can and do your best. May the good Lord comfort him and his family knowing he died doing what he loved.

A heck of a situation, I too am VERY glad they got all the lost folks out & tho it's sad to lose one good guy, there are far worse ways to go - He'll do well in the afterlife. (I tend to think of it as "If you aren't here to save lives while alive, you need to FIX that." But I was in Search and Rescue so I may be biased!)

I'm wondering why this is not bigger news????
I would think it would be headlines all over the world.
During the ordeal, it was not headline news on any of our local stations.
Not even front page in the paper.
I read yahoo news, and it wasn't really headline news there to.
What is happening to the world today?????
I read a story of people bashing Elon Musk(?) for trying to help.
What ever people think his reason for doing it. At least he did something.

I'm a bit surprised too, it doesn't seem like it became a lead story until the very last few days of it. Not sure why. When those miners in Chile were trapped, it made news and people followed it more closely, I'd have guessed that due to the nature of this one, much hairier rescue and children involved, people would have been glued to the sets.

I'm still very happy this ended well. It's important to remember that there are still a lot of really good people in the world. It's easy to forget sometimes.
