    T/C Scout carbine - .54

Somebody had a T/C Scout Carbine for sale,in .54, and I was wondering if anybody knew what the rate of twist was on those?

I hope that is it. I heard that early versions had a 1 / 20 twist.

I bought mine in the late 80's, brand new, walnut stock and forend, before the plastic stocks.... Mine is 1-32" and doesn't like round balls much. I used Lee Reals, TC Maxi Hunters, 310 gr. "Ballettes" as well as Saboted rounds with good accuracy and results on deer.

Mine is 1-20 twist. I believe they changed the twist later because it was faster twist than was needed and slower works better. I thought the other twist was 1-38 but I could be mistaken. Mine seems to shoot good with light loads even with that twist but I haven't shot it much yet.

Well you got me to thinking so I checked mine with a tight patch. The carbine has a short barrel and I might have got some slippage, but mine is definitely slower than 1-20 and less than 1-40....not much help. My memory says 1-32, it could be 1-38, hard to interpolate exactly.

I tried mine with heavier loads for hunting with round ball and it didn't like them at all. It likes the heavier stuff with 80-90gr. of 3f.
