No I haven’t tried the rifle target, even the 4” one in black looks small. The 7” handgun target looks doable at 100 yds tho. Will try it when I get the cast 55gr pills up to speed, tho i am sure the J bullets could do well at 3250 and good well tuned Thompson single shot with scope.

I'm subscribing to this thread but I can't shoot until it cools off a little down here in central Texas. I'm almost out of rifle boolits and it's too hot to cast right now.

I generally cast all of my boolits for the year during January - April but wasn't able to this year. I think that this will be fun as long as we keep it simple and informal. Semper Fi, Treetop

I want to try open sights. I've been doing scoped for a long time but now the iron sight bug has bitten me. I wasn't too bad with open sights once upon a time.

Trouble is, I won't know if me, my load or my gun that is doing poorly. If I do good then naturally I will take all the credit.

I once shot a group at 110 yds with the old Lee Medford style sights on a rifle of that vintage that made me proud. If memory serves it was something like 1.5 to 2 MOA (and it was more than one shot!) with a crude rest and a crude target. So I have some incentive to try to get to that again - and show y'all. It might take a while though.

On the jacketed thingies - I see them as a benchmark. If I can get 1 MOA with jacketed's then that's what I want to get with cast or paper patched - or better, depending on the gun. I do have one or two guns that won't short worth a **** with jacketed's.

But in the meanwhile I'd really like to see your all's target results. Including bug hole jacketed groups!

Why re-invent the wheel for targets? Use standard nra targets. Just pick the one that makes sense. Maybe a single bull Smallbore target for 50 and 100 yards.

    Cheap too.

Agree, cast only. Who is going to head it up? When do we shoot? Hope it is soon or spring work will overtake me.
To paraphrase Ronald Reagan, the trouble with many shooting experts is not that they're ignorant; its just that they know so much that isn't so.

OLD thread but I'm game if we can pull this together. I do agree that this needs to be CB only, no J-words.

Should be cast only—set up what ever works as a consensus and I will participate

I would be interested. I may or may not have a gun to shoot in the match right now.
