Light or heavy bullet in 6.5 Swede????

Which would be the better one to use? I've tried both but can't remember
which one worked the best. (CRS) you know. Thanks for any info...

I got/get the best consistent accuracy with two 6.5 cast bullets; the 266455 and the 6.5 Kurtz. Both are Loverin style bullets of 128 - 130 gr weight with COWW +2% tin or #2 alloy.

The original load in the Swede was a very long 156gr RN bullet. Thus, the tight twist of 1:8. Certainly, shooting cast, a longer bullet that will not sit too far of the lands would be best suited to the rifle. If shooting jacketed, 140 grs spritzers work well, but you will likely find that seating them longer works best. I like the VVLD long 140 j-bullets in mine.

Great.... I have a NOE mold that cast 134 gr. I've been using 2400 powder in most of my
military rifles. Does 14-16 grs sound about right? Thanks for the info guys.

My RCBS 140 gn worked best. Tried the heavy long cruise missle and never found success.

The M96 has a 7.87 inch twist. It's throated for the 156 round nose.
It will handle most any 6.5mm weight bullet. I have worked up good loads for bullets
as light at 100 grains with good accuracy. I found it to be an easy
gun to handload for.

I have a sporter built off of an M96 that has the original military barrel
on it. This was my #1 hunting rifle in the 90's when I was hunting in
South Texas. My load was the 125 grain Nosler with a stiff load of H4350.
This load would group right at MOA. 2850 fps. Superb killer and shot
flat.
