Sheet Lead Question

Hi,
Just picked up a piece (roll) of real thin lead. Gentleman said it was his fathers who used to work in an X-ray room. Anybody have an idea of composition? Is it pure lead or an alloy? Any and all opinions welcome. See Pictures, it about 3-4 long.

What would be a fair price per pound?

Should be pure soft lead. If you can gouge it easily with a thumbnail it's very pure.

Looks like a good find. Especially if you something black powder that you have to feed.

The lead sheeting makes good duck decoy anchors, if you know someone into that. I cut strips 12 inches long x 1 inch wide: weight came to just over 5 ounces. A hole drilled in the end of the strip takes the line to the decoy. Wind the line around the decoy's neck or keel, press the strip around the decoy's neck keeps everything tidy. Midway sells 4 - 6 oz anchor set ups for $2.50 to $3.00 each.

Nice Score! Like the others have said, it will be soft, and nearly pure.

If it is like the thin sheet shielding Pb like I find gobs of, it is soft pure Pb. Lots on here are clammering for pure for BP casting.

$1 pound seems to be going rate... cut it in squares to fit a flat rate box...

My flooring lead has a BH of 5. I call mine pure. I cut mine with coww to make boolits that expand and not crack or shatter. I wouldn't get rid of it if I were you.

Pure Pb like you have is what just about EVERYONE wants/needs to mix and cast their magic formula. Don’t you cast boolits???????????

If so, keep it. Pure Pb is getting harder to find in many areas!!!!!!! It is worth $1/# on here, usually including ship $$.

It is pure....Me and my friend got lucky few years back. He found at junkyard rolls for x-ray room but that hospital was ordered too much lead... we get unused rolls with manufacturers tapes on both end of rolls, and whole haul was near 1000kg...I add picture when i get my storage

I tore up approx 15'x30' plus of flooring last year and melted it all into ingots. It's work but will have enough that I probably won't need any more in my life time. It's a little stash to have. I'm guessing a good 400 plus pounds? Maybe more. I mix it with the couple tons of coww ingots I have. I haven't seen the need for harder alloy yet. I remember when I got into casting last year and thought what do I do with this worthless, soft lead...I need hard lynotype. Boy, has my thought process changed. I need more pure!
